Carli Lloyd Stands Alone: The Only Player in the US Women's Soccer Team Who Stood for the National Anthem

In the world of soccer the jersey number 10 is a special one. The person wearing that number is the playmaker. They’re usually positioned either as the lead striker or the attacker just behind the lead striker. Most of the most decisive passes and scoring opportunities are created by or go through the #10.

For the U.S. women’s national soccer team, Carli Lloyd wears the #10 jersey. Other players such as Megan Rapinoe absorb more of the media attention and endorsements, but U.S. women’s coaches have long acknowledged Lloyd as the team’s playmaker.

Six years ago, it was Lloyd leading the way as the U.S. women defeated Japan in the World Cup final. Her 16-minute hat trick put Japan to the sword. They never recovered and the Americans got revenge for losing the World Cup final to Japan four years earlier.

Going into the Tokyo Olympics, Lloyd said she’d never been happier on the team. Rapinoe had played inconsistently but had consistently used her status on the team to make political statements. Lloyd stayed quiet and just did her job on the pitch.

They lost the semi-final to Canada and had to settle for playing against Australia in the bronze medal match.

All but one of the U.S. players knelt before that game. The only woman who stood was playmaker Carli Lloyd. She has, to my knowledge, never knelt during any of the protests the team has engaged in over the past year. Lloyd has always stood, and as she did before the match versus Australia, often alone.

Lloyd stands alone in another way. She contributed two goals to the 4-3 win over Australia, bringing her Olympic total to 10 goals.

I’d rather we field teams of lesser talents than permit anti-American slugs to wear our nation’s uniforms.

Today’s “liberals” are mostly fascists. No dissent is allowed! If one player kneels, all players must kneel!

So the peer pressure on this young lady must have been enormous.

And thanks for posting this article, SeekAndFind. It’s nice to read about patriots like Carli Lloyd.

Buy her book.

When Nobody Was Watching: My Hard-Fought Journey to the Top of the Soccer World

CARLI LLOYD is captain of the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team and has been named the FIFA World Player of the Year for two years in a row (2015 and 2016). The midfielder led the U.S. team to World Cup victory in 2015 and also scored the gold-medal winning goals in both the 2008 and 2012 Olympics.

In a world of relativism she can expect a congressional seat in a year. Our society is suffering from greatness anorexia.

This just shows how easily people fall for stupid trends or want to virtue-signal that they are woke... and, therefore, part of the elite. Where the hell is the coach? Who’s country does he think he is working for? Fire him!

If they hate the US so much, why not play for another country? Oh, yeah, it’s the $$$$$$ and fawning praise.

If the attitude of most of the women’s soccer team is — We are ashamed of our national anthem, our country and what it represents, we might as well NOT have a Women’s Soccer team in ANY international tournament.

Let them represent themselves, not the USA if they wish.

“...it’s the $$$$$$....” which is apparently WAY less than the men make. So if you don’t generate the same sort of revenue you still think you should have equal pay? Interesting eh? Anyway, big thanks to Carli for standing. How viciously has the left attacked her for it? Or have they.

A Point about the women’s pay - other than it is less than the men’s and they also don’t bring in as much money and the men’s league.

Their union negotiated far better conditions in their contracts on health etc from their league.

So any talk about pay is mixing apples and oranges.

Here is what I have always believed about being paid - you are worth what you can negotiate for yourself from the person that pays you. People getting paid to play a game! Good for them but what can they do after the game. Sports such as football, basketball, soccer, and son on - you are only good up till your 30’s with the rare people who can play into their 40’s. Then afterwards - when the game is over, no more lights, no mare cheering crowds - then what? There are millions of people throughout the world who wished they had the talent to play these games. Yet, there are athletes who are so great as coming off as snobbish and crass that make everyone think all the athletes are like that.

Most American golfers are true Americans. The Left hasn't destroyed Golf yet. Most are also quite religious and traditional, I like these golfers.
