Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian said Tuesday it’s “very hard” to mandate people be vaccinated against COVID-19 to travel domestically because the shots aren’t yet fully approved.
The Atlanta-based carrier has no plans to require that passengers of domestic flights be vaccinated, he told CNBC.
“It’s very difficult for us to come in and mandate a vaccine that isn’t even federally approved yet. The authorization hasn’t been final yet, so stay tuned,” Bastian reportedly said.

Oh sure, like the FDA needs more political pressure. And I am no big fan of the FDA.
Well, heck, ‘resident bidet will just sign an executive order. No problem.
Great—no Fourth Reich until the FDA approves...
I have heard from some medically educated folks that they are skeptical it will receive full FDA approval.
What are the consequences to FDA if approved and then later turns out to be a huge disaster?
I heard PFE is asking for full approval, as are a few foreign developed vaccines. I think it is way too early for FDA to approve, by their own rules, other than as an Emergency Use. They could give one of them an Orphan Drug status but all that does is speed up the process of approval - it doesn’t change the parameters much as regards safety, efficacy, clinical studies etc. These vaccines have no met those parameters in my studied but limited experience.
Oh... they will get it alright.
I’m sure the FDA right now resembles a dumb-ass robber who pulls out a gun in a bar full of off-duty police officers.
No consequences. They just remove the marketing authorization. Nobody in federal government is ever held accountable. You can shoot an unarmed women in the Capitol and get away with it if you’re in the protected political class.
Really? Anymore info? I was worried they might rubber stamp it. The FDA is basically a branch of the pharmaceutical industry association now.
I dunno. I think this is one of the few cases where governmental turf wars are actually helping we the citizens. The FDA controls the approval, not the NIH or CDC. They have their rules in place for a reason and while I don’t know to a mortal certainty, I just can’t see them throwing all the rules and procedures out for this. EUA is one thing. Full approval is something else.
Have any of these companies even made their animal studies public?
Can the ceo of delta confirm with 100% certainty none of the male cabin attendants who are homosexual don’t have AIDS/HIV or another deadly virus?
While old fashion Empirical science can not be trusted to get a green light anytime soon and might take many years and then determine there are long term health problems for a new kind of medical technology. Politically controlled science is so much more reliable, and will get the politically desired answer and in much quicker fashion!
a different twist in the delta variant...
>>> Have any of these companies even made their animal studies public?
Well, yes and no... because all of the animals died.
They just reported initial results of increased antibody response from the studies.
100% Lethality was reached in mice at 2 months. (that’s 2 years in human terms)
Once the FDA approves it does that negate the no liability agreement for emergency use? So Pharma can be sued for future problems?
They are rushing the Pfizer vaccine to “full approval” by Labor Day even though Israel dumped it for the Moderna vaccine this month following the recent outbreak involving many vaccinated people.
The 1985 said that vaccine makers can't be sued. Anyone injured by a vaccine has to go before a governmental board to try to get some money as a remedy.
The FDA is mostly staffed by former and future pharmaceutical company executives. It’s hardly independent.
I don't think so. Open to correction, but the liability issue is done by an Act of Congress. Other drug companies can be and are often sued by people harmed by the drugs; especially drugs that have been pulled off the market. Vaccine immunity is a separate law.
