LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy has died after being “targeted and ambushed” by gunfire in Shively.
According to JCSO, Brandon Shirley, 26, was working an off-duty security detail at a used car lot when he was shot inside his vehicle. The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. at the Rockford Lane Auto Sales, which is near Western High School.
After the shooting, he was rushed to UofL Hospital, where he was immediately taken into emergency surgery. His wounds were too extensive, and he did not survive.
As of now, the shooter or shooters have not been captured. LMPD Chief Erika Shields said they have a couple of potential suspects, but cannot say more as they are playing this “close to the vest” to ensure an arrest and a conviction.
“He was targeted, and he was ambushed. It is just sickening. We will make an arrest,” she said Thursday.
JCSO Sheriff John Aubrey said Shirley joined the department working at the courthouse in March 2019. He graduated from the police academy that December.
Aubrey said at the department’s last awards program, he received the Medal of Valor for his assistance in the fatal shooting of Tyler Gerth at Jefferson Square Park during last year’s civil unrest.
"Everybody liked him. He was a good person, he was good to be around," Major George Grissom said.

“Ambushed” is the buzzword police use now when they are shot by criminals. Ambushed implies lying in wait in a concelaed position, which isn’t the case in this event.
bLM crazies train around Looville with weapons and tactics. Several times they have brought them out in public and flashed their skill in shoot and move tactics.
