ALBANY, N.Y. — A majority of state Assembly members support beginning impeachment proceedings against Gov. Andrew Cuomo if he doesn’t resign over investigative findings that he sexually harassed at least 11 women, according to an Associated Press count Wednesday.
At least 86 of the body’s 150 members have said publicly or told The AP that they favored initiating the process of ousting the third-term Democratic governor if he doesn’t quit. It takes a simple majority to authorize an impeachment trial.
The tally reflects a governor plunged into a political deep freeze — a Democratic scion who has now lost most, if not all, of his allies in the party establishment, just a year after basking in national attention as a blunt-but-relatable voice of fighting the coronavirus.
Cuomo denies making any inappropriate sexual advances and insists the findings don’t reflect the facts. But while political pressure is growing, so is the potential for criminal charges against Cuomo.
District attorneys in Manhattan, suburban Westchester and Nassau counties and the state capital of Albany said they asked for investigative materials from the inquiry, overseen by Democratic state Attorney General Letitia James. The inquiry found that Cuomo — a former state AG himself — violated civil laws against sexual harassment, and it left the door open for local prosecutors to bring cases.
Joyce A. Smith, Nassau County’s acting district attorney, called the findings “deeply disturbing” and pledged her office would “thoroughly and expeditiously investigate.”
One of the governor’s closest allies, New York Democratic Party chairperson Jay Jacobs, declared that Cuomo “has lost his ability to govern, both practically and morally.” Jacobs told Spectrum News he had tried privately to persuade Cuomo to resign but “wasn’t making headway.”
Cuomo showed no signs of heeding such messages. He said some episodes described in the report never happened, others were misconstrued or mischaracterized and the whole exercise was tainted.
I’m going to get some popcorn and a drink. I think I will enjoy this show.
Not a single word about the 15,000 nursing home deaths this POS is responsible for.
We’ll see, Cuomo is bizarrely insane and the Assembly & Senate Dems are remarkably inept.
This guy doesn’t have enough character or ethics to resign...not to mention he just doesn’t seem to be well...very bright. Him OR his little brother.
That’s one of the reasons I hope he fights, because they may have no choice but to go nuclear and go after the nursing home deaths to get him out, and they really don’t want to go there if they don’t have to.
and just like that the NYC vaccine pass is old news.
The Greatest Show On Earth
In another thread on this topic someone asked the question why and why now…there seems to be more than we’re allowed to see. Dems rarely resign for sexual misconduct. So, who’s after him and why?? What’s really going on?
I would rather he be impeached for nursing home scandal.
From NPR News, it's Day to Day. Illinois Governor Rob Blagojevich is back at work today in his Chicago office, still defying calls for his resignation. Blagojevich was arrested last week and charged in a wide-ranging corruption scandal.
Except the article does not say Cuomo is going to be impeached - as in, it’s GOING to happen.
More journalistic “goodness” from Citizen Free Press. Just a cut and paste clickbait shop, probably run by journalism school flunkies. Who show their dishonesty by slapping on a misleading headline.
I hope he’s dragged kicking and screaming from office.
I’m angry about the sexual misconduct - but that pales in comparison to the nursing home deaths he’s responsible for.
The impeachment should be about the old folks that he sent to their deaths in nursing homes. The accusations of “harassment” do not add up to an impeachable offense.
Old folks = mostly White, conservative. They don’t count. Fangtooth feminais - the politicians really fear their wrath.
I think-THIS s*&t show is designed to push him to the wall over the sex abuse issues, to distract attention from the elections coming up ... AND ALSO...so he can slide on the Nursing Home crimes
Otherwise, why wait until NOW to take his problems seriously?
