CDC announces new 60-day eviction freeze for most US counties
New York Post ^

Posted on 08/04/2021 7:21:06 AM PDT by outpostinmass2

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced a new 60-day eviction moratorium in counties where the transmission of COVID-19 is either “substantial” or “high.”

The CDC defines a “substantial” or “high” transmission rate as at least 50 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people over a seven day period. According to the agency, 80.87 percent of US counties are currently experiencing these transmission rates.

The new moratorium includes criminal penalties for landlords who turn out tenants in the affected counties. An eviction that “does not result in a death” can result in a fine of up to $100,000 and one year in prison, while an eviction that does result in a death would lead to a fine of up to $250,000 and one year in prison.

The new moratorium replaces a previous freeze that expired Saturday after Congressional Democrats failed to garner enough support for an extension before House members left DC to begin their August recess.

The eviction moratorium would be in effect for about 80 percent of counties in the United States. The White House had urged Congress to pass legislation extending the moratorium after the Supreme Court decided in June that the CDC overstepped its authority by enacting the ban. The court left the moratorium in place through July 31 in a 5-4 ruling but one of the five, Justice Brett Kavanaugh, warned that extending the freeze beyond that date would require legislation from Congress.

Hours before the CDC announced the new freeze, President Biden admitted to reporters at the White House that he thought it unlikely a new moratorium imposed by the executive branch would survive a legal challenge.

The eviction moratorium initial expiration date is October 31.

Shouldn’t we disband Congress? There seems to be plenty of Washington bureaucrats and judges out there, making all the legislation we could ever need. Congress is superfluous.

Let’s just dispense with the formality and just:
1) Dismiss all student loans
2) Make eviction illegal
3) Make not being vaccinated illegal
4) Make employing anyone who isn’t vaccinated illegal
5) Make auditing elections illegal
6) Make ownership of anything that could even be remotely used as a weapon illegal meaning self-defense classes such as TKD are also illegal

This is what they want. This is where they want us to go. If an agency of unelected bureaucrats can destroy the livelihoods of property owners/landlords, then there’s no reason for Congress or the Senate to exist, let alone the governments in each of the states of the union.

From what I have read, if you have a tenant that is in arrears and refuses to file the paperwork to for ‘landlord assistance’, as the landlord you are sincerely screwed.

As others have pointed out, this is simply contract interference and I cannot believe the CDC thinks they have the legal standing to do this.

Can the CDC suspend credit card payments? Why not? Isn’t rent just revolving credit paying off a contract (lease)?

I like president Trump but he did not follow through on the swamp drainage. The CDC is a very deep swamp much like the FBI. Trump also took bad advice on who he hired. All one needs to do to drain the swamp is to fire the head of the agency and their HR department. Replace them with humans. The swamp creatures will make themselves known very quickly and can be eliminated.

Welcome to the Post United States. There is no longer any private property for the folks. There is community property, and property owned by the ruling elite.

Community property is owned by the collectivity. The ruling elite still has, and always will have, the right to own private property that is theirs with no strings attached. The ordinary mortals don’t own anything, but they get to use it. Former landowners are coerced-custodians of what was once theirs, but no longer is. That way they can maintain the illusion that they actually “OWN” some property.

There is no ownership any more. All is in the possession of the all powerful state (but the ruling elite holds on to theirs.)

But lo and behold, you get to pay the taxes on your former property! Isn’t that swell?

Do you really think they will lift the “moratorium” after two months? HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

Elections have consequences.

We had a thread here yesterday in Chat (that should have been upgraded to the sidebar but wasn’t) that showed the CDC was discussing a year ago plans to “isolate” people of any age with serious health conditions in “safe” or “green” zones, “temporarily” of course. Active discussion among themselves of putting millions of Americans on boxcars and taking them away somewhere for their own good of course.
