O’FALLON, Mo. (AP) — Missouri Gov. Mike Parson announced Tuesday that he made good on his promise to pardon a couple who gained notoriety for pointing guns at social justice demonstrators as they marched past the couple’s home in a luxury St. Louis enclave last year.
Parson, a Republican, on Friday pardoned Mark McCloskey, who pleaded guilty in June to misdemeanor fourth-degree assault and was fined $750, and Patricia McCloskey, who pleaded guilty to misdemeanor harassment and was fined $2,000.
“Mark McCloskey has publicly stated that if he were involved in the same situation, he would have the exact same conduct,” the McCloskeys’ lawyer Joel Schwartz said Tuesday. “He believes that the pardon vindicates that conduct.”
The McCloskeys, both lawyers in their 60s, said they felt threatened by the protesters, who were passing their home in June 2020 on their way to demonstrate in front of the mayor’s house nearby in one of hundreds of similar demonstrations around the country after George Floyd’s death. The couple also said the group was trespassing on a private street.
Mark McCloskey emerged from his home with an AR-15-style rifle, and Patricia McCloskey waved a semiautomatic pistol, according to the indictment.

Good!
The Mayor should be thanking them for slowing the mob.
I thought they marched on to their property. That is a crucial difference.
And they will be returning their firearms, yeah?
The McCloskeys should be awarded medals of freedom.
The first sentence of that AP article is incontrovertible proof that they must henceforth be referred to as “American Pravda”!
They weren’t protesters. They were a mob who broke down the entry gate and trespassed on private property and was clearly marked.
“...Patricia McCloskey waved a semiautomatic pistol...”
What??? Waved it like a flag??? Or waved it like like saying “Hello”...???
You can “hold” a pistol or you can “aim” a pistol, but I don’t see “waving” a pistol...
Depends on how you want to define it. It was a gated community and the road was owned and maintained by the residents association so by that token the demonstrators were on McCloskey property. But the physical yard that the house stood on? I don't believe they were.
The street they "marched" on was a private street. Imagine if your ancestor had a fairly large piece of property, died, and left it to his kids. And one of his kids sold his portion, but it was positioned so that there was no access to the property without using a road that ran through the rest of the original family's property. This would result in a "right of way" situation where the new owner of the "back property" could travel onto the privately owned road to get from his property to the main public road. Even though some non-owners are allowed on the road, it's still a private road in which only the people the owners say can be on it are allowed (including people who purchased a right to use it with their purchase of their home).
Maybe you’d prefer “brandish”, which is the legal term.
Now go look up the definition...”wave or flourish (something, especially a weapon) as a threat or in anger or excitement.”
No, I would prefer hold or aim, as I said......
They were not "social justice demonstrators" they were violent terrorists and criminals.
The AP is lying. They broke down a gate and marched onto the property - then threatened to kill McClosky, his wife and dog and take their property.
The McCloskys never should have been charged in the first place. Those who trespassed and threatened are the ones should have been prosecuted. What charges have been filed against them?

The wording used by the very liberal Associated Press was meant to infer she was carelessly handling the pistol...
Is that what you prefer???
Much better!
Just couldn’t mention that the ‘semi-automatic’ pistol was disabled to use as a prop in a courtroom, could they.
