A bill for a guaranteed income program proposed by progressive Democrats in Congress is calling for ongoing $1,200 monthly stimulus checks for adults plus $600 for each child in the household.

The program, called the Sending Unconditional Payments to People Overcoming Resistances to Triumph (SUPPORT) Act, was introduced in the U.S. House by Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar, and co-sponsored by Reps. Cori Bush, D-Missouri, Dwight Evans D-Pennsylvania, Jamaal Bowman D, New York, and Pramila Jayapal D-California.

“Poverty is a choice. For too long we have prioritized endless growth while millions are homeless, hungry or without healthcare” Omar said in a news release about the bill.

“The pandemic has laid bare these inequalities. We as a nation have the ability to make sure everyone has their basic needs like food, housing and healthcare met.”

omar stated ... For too long we have prioritized endless growth

The afrikan brother loving slunt has only been supposedly a naturalized citizen since 2000, but she feels she has the knowledge and authority to tell real Americans about how wrong the U.S. has been for 'TOO LONG'.

From the article, a family of four (two adults + two children) will receive $3600/mo under the proposed plan.

My family members trying to start their lives as young adults do not have children nor are they married.

So $1200 is supposed to lift them out of poverty?

I would be in favor of some form of this IF EVERY other welfare, entitlement, et al was eliminated.

IOW, no food stamps, no housing subsidies, no earned income credit....no nothing, not even obama phones.

Of course not. I’m also 100% opposed to this proposed plan, and nobody needs to be receiving cash payments to “lift [them] out of poverty.”

There is no Constitutional authorization for this plan. It’s wrong, immoral, and illegal.

How long will it be before they say 1,200 USD is not enough and they start demanding more money? Because we all know 1,200 a month won’t lift you out of poverty.

Tell them to just learn how to code. /s

Well, there might be a silver lining...

Think about all the homeless junkies and ghetto junkies who will OD in no time at all with most of their free money going into their arm...no more $1200 a month for them...not to mention all those aspiring rappers in places like chicago and minneapolis...you know, guys like george floyd, michael brown, freddie gray...

There is no constitutional authority for just about everything that is being done today. Even the 10th does not count. If every one of the entitlements and give aways were dropped outside of what is put into this plan, on balance, it would be a savings considering the host of government parasites who would be gone too.

We are in such a hole, we are not going to dig out of this, ever. The last step is when the monitory system collapses and nothing except hard assets, bullets, and guns have any value. Even then, we end up in a complete dictatorship and I am not connected enough to be one of the “ships”.

The US has defaulted on its debt many times already so nothing new there. The basic income concept is designed to drive inflation so eventually, the Feds will say they have to revalue the dollar and poof, all the debt is gone, people are poor and the only ones left are your government leaders holding what wealth there is left. As production starts up, it will be owned by the government and the transformation is complete.
