The COVID-19 pandemic remains a global public health threat after 1 year of overwhelming disruption and loss. Overcoming the challenges to end the pandemic is accentuated by the recognition that SARS-CoV-2 can undergo rapid antigenic variation that may lower vaccine effectiveness in preventing new cases and progression to severe disease. Our findings show that most COVID-19 patients induce a wide-ranging immune defense against SARS-CoV-2 infection, encompassing antibodies and memory B cells recognizing both the RBD and other regions of the spike, broadly-specific and polyfunctional CD4+ T cells, and polyfunctional CD8+ T cells. The immune response to natural infection is likely to provide some degree of protective immunity even against SARS-CoV-2 variants because the CD4+ and CD8+ T cell epitopes will likely be conserved. Thus, vaccine induction of CD8+ T cells to more conserved antigens such as the nucleocapsid, rather than just to SARS-CoV-2 spike antigens, may add benefit to more rapid containment of infection as SARS-CoV-2 variants overtake the prevailing strains.

So why are definitions of medical terms being changed and everyone, regardless of having had the disease or not, must be vaccinated? And the previously infected received the entire virus, not just mRNA encoding the spike protein.

Because antibody level testing is far more expensive.
I ate cooked meat in early 2020. It probably had Covid from infected workers. How many antibodies I had as a result I do not know. It would be insufficient to test me for antibodies present or not.

He also drives for Uber to earn money. Exposing himself to strangers continuously. He’s perfectly fine. And, so are we.

I will take natural immunity through infection over narrow immunity targeting only the spike protein any day of the week. It is not even a fair fight really.
As a matter of fact, it looks like the coronavirus has already adapted to defeat the insanely narrow pressure applied to it.
Same thing here. No social distancing at work, no masks, and yet none of us got covid.

So in order not to catch it you have to catch it ??? Seems kind of a worthless study to me, but I’m sure it was funded by the taxpayers so maybe the can study increased hangnail incidence in vaccinated vs infected or something equally useful.
A longitudinal study is repeated observation of an experimental group over a period of time (here they were looking at people who had been infected). Their immunity apparently was robust for a long time. This has been shown in other studies as well.
I just came back from Florida last week. Left Wednesday and headed to Alabama. On my last trip to Georgia and Alabama I became ill from the coronavirus and began to feel it within 4-5 days. That was 9 months ago.
This time I feel fine even though I was in crowded places, nobody wore a mask and I have not been vaccinated. So in my study with a sample size of n=1 natural immunity seemed to have worked, if one is foolish enough to believe covid-19 is running rampant in Florida because of Ron DeSantis.
