Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti recently signed into law an ordinance that criminalizes homelessness in most parts of the city, a motion that has drawn just as much fierce support by some as it has opposition by others.
The law specifies certain times and locations where it will be 'unlawful for a person to sit, lie, or sleep, or to store, use, maintain, or place personal property in the public right-of-way'.
The ordinance, which will go into effect 30 days from last Thursday, makes it illegal to sit, lie, sleep, or set up encampments within 500 feet from 'sensitive use' properties, which include schools, parks, libraries, overpasses, underpasses, freeway ramps, tunnels, bridges, pedestrian bridges, subways, washes, spreading grounds and active railways.

Sounds like LA is going back to something like the normal vagrancy laws that used to be enforced in most every city. Color me shocked.
Put them on poo clean up.
Better late than never.
If the homeless had a $1,000 to pay a fine for being homeless, they probably wouldn't be homeless, now would they?
Taking liberal idiocy to a whole new level.
I’m not up to speed on historical municipal ordinance regulations, but LA has been around for 150 years or so, it would seem really improbable that the problem up until now was simply that they didn’t have any laws against this sort of thing. Or put another way, what good is this going to do? It’s already illegal.
Now Garcetti is criminalizing homelessness with $1000 fines, and kicking them off the streets.
Does this sound like cognitive dissonance to you?

Pay up suckaz!
Newsome puts his finger the political winds to see what he needs to remain in office and plays his hand accordingly.....I figure he needs political funds so the homeless problem, those with money grip about, need to think he’s doing something about street people in order to open their pocketbooks.
You have no idea how much the corner “homeless” rake in, tax free, in my area every week.
I see them begging all day and at dark, they get in nice cars parked far away and drive home...or somewhere.
Big business donors must have read the riot act to the mayor.
Maybe they can pay the fine with the up to $950 they can steal daily and sell or through the universal income proposals.
Next up is a $1000 fine if you get covid... that should stop the spread.
“Sensitive use properties”
Hmmm. That must mean celebrities’ properties and places where celebrities congregate.
If all of the people who get arrested were driven to a local gated community and locked in for the night, maybe there would be calls for actual action to clean up the situation.
WTF?
Will it be the social workers passing out the tickets? The social workers that replaced the police?
Same here, plus they wear better clothes than I have. I’d also like to know how much of an investment in tattoos most of them are sporting.
He’s likely just trying to give Gavin a hand in the recall.
Make it $10,000 and it be solved 10X faster, right Garcetti? Dumbass.
