Simone Biles has withdrawn from her third individual apparatus final of the Olympics, leaving only one event where she can choose to compete.
Biles on Sunday withdrew from the floor exercise final, which was scheduled for Monday, U.S.A. Gymnastics said in a statement. She had previously said that she would not compete in the uneven bars or vault finals, which are scheduled for Sunday night.
Her last potential event in the Tokyo Games would be the balance beam, and U.S.A. Gymnastics said she would make a decision soon.
“Either way, we’re all behind you, Simone,” the organization said in a statement.
MyKayla Skinner, another American, will take Biles’s place in the vault final. On the floor exercise, Jennifer Gadirova of Britain will move into Biles’s spot.
Biles, the most decorated gymnast in history, was expected to repeat as all-around champion, but she withdrew from the all-around and the team final last week, citing mental health issues. She said that she was not mentally prepared to compete and that she was also dealing with a common gymnastics problem of her losing bearings while performing daring maneuvers in the air.
She exited the team final after the vault, and was in the stands to watch her teammate Sunisa Lee win the all-around. Lee was the fifth straight American woman to win that event, following Carly Patterson in 2004, Nastia Liukin in 2008, Gabby Douglas in 2012 and Biles in 2016.
Lee’s next chance at a medal will be on Sunday in the uneven bars, her best event.
A new all-around champion. Sunisa Lee won the gold medal in the women’s all-around competition, taking advantage of Simone Biles’ exit from the competition. Lee has few equals on uneven bars, and may also medal in the event finals.

Clearly not as much of an idiot as you are.
She risks her life is she attempts her routines with the wrong mindset.
So tell me....how many gymnasts have died while performing at the Olympics then?
I know plenty of Formula One drivers who have died during races, how many gymnasts have?
Withdraw completely and be done with it.
See post #35. She had no problem trying to intimidate the other competitors. Instead she fell on her own sword. History is replete with examples of people from all walks of life who thought they were invincible until they found out they weren't.
Paul Joseph Watson posted a video about Simone. If you watch it you will see that the issue isn't really about Simone failing. It's about the people who celebrate her failure and see it as a sign of courage, bullying into silence anyone who might think otherwise.
I am not a world class athlete. Biles is a world class athlete who choked and then refuses to go away.
Or Bitches be crazy...
When I was younger I was seriously into bodybuilding. I mean, I hit the weights at the gym every day and felt guilty if I took more than a day off. Years of this. And then one day, in the gym, it just suddenly hit me hard, why am I doing this? Much of my life revolved around working out, eating clean, etc. I realized I was out of order. It was like an epiphany and I just quit. Totally wanted no more to do with it. Yeah, I still love to work out as a past time, but I completely understand years of grinding yourself and then just deciding your done. Her, undoubtedly, much more so with all the pressure and competition.
Except she has done it all before. I’m curious about what is different for her this time. I would think the pressure would be an old friend to her by now, and unfortunately this is how she’s going to be remembered.
Agree. The system is like cannibalism, in a way.
She’s 24. Hardly a kid.
Exactly. As if there aren’t plenty of other athletes to talk about at the Games.
In high school such an athelete would have never been allowed on the bus ride back home and would have to find their own ride home...so whos footing the bill for her ride back home? Just saying.
She is NOT a "kid"! She is 24 years old. Many people have saved their country for SIX years by that age, doing dangerous, life threatening, and highly technical work the entire time (combat pilot? ordnance and bomb disposal?). This increased infantilization of modern adults has got to stop. You are not a child at 24. This is why liberals win, because so-called conservatives internalize the liberal's definitions and world-views. This woman is an adult professional (as in gymnastics is her proffesion), so stop treating her like she is a six year-old!
People can have a weird sense of ownership about sports competitors. The young South Korean woman who won the archery competition was being savaged by Koreans on the internet because she got a haircut.
Did I mention people can be just weird?
‘Why don’t the media leave the poor woman alone?’
because the woman occupied a spot on a competitive team that could have gone to another individual who has dedicated equally long hours to make said team...
if she were a white male, he would be roasted to a crisp for his selfishness...but as a black female, who in today’s culture can do no wrong, she is more heroic than ever...
never argue with a dope head, its like trying to build a chair out of wet carboard.
Ok, so what? Move onto other stories, and let her and her teammates deal with it.
It doesn’t get any braver than that.
Shes a kid? Shes 24 years old!!! Thats not a kid.
‘Virtually everyone of these “mental health” issues are euphemisms for “I smoke weed.”
you virtually know all the details of virtually everyone of these incidents, do you...?
