Republicans loved seeing Herschel Walker score touchdown after touchdown. They doubt he can carry them to the Senate majority.
Walker is a former NFL star and Donald Trump’s favorite to take on Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock in the Georgia Senate race next fall. But as years-old allegations about Walker’s marriage and business dealings weigh on his potential bid, Senate Republicans are raising concerns about his past in a state widely viewed as their best pickup opportunity next year.
“Some of it’s pretty bad, obviously: physical abuse and pulling a gun on his wife, if that’s true,” said Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), a former chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee who is close to Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. “I want to win that race. And to the extent that he’s handicapped by some of these things that would make that unlikely, I’d prefer to have somebody else.”
Walker’s potential candidacy offers another test case for the former president’s influence over the GOP, as Trump tries to play kingmaker in Senate races that will determine whether Republicans can win back the majority. Trump has already backed Rep. Ted Budd in North Carolina and Rep. Mo Brooks in Alabama in open primaries, breaking with the endorsements of the Senate Republicans vacating those seats.
But Walker has hesitated to enter the Georgia race despite Trump’s entreaties, and with good reason. Should Walker proceed to run, he is all but guaranteed to face questions about his personal and financial decisions. While the former football star has been open about his struggles with dissociative identity disorder, recent news reports, including a lengthy AP examination, have resurfaced past allegations from his ex-wife that he threatened to kill her. In addition, his claims about his business success are also coming under scrutiny.

Sounds to me as if Walker committed a crime almost exactly like George Democrat Icon Floyd. He should easily carry both parties.
I'm sure there's a County Executive, Mayor, state Senator or Representative seat available for Walker. I wish the GOP and conservative groups would stop putting so much emphasis on federal races. Start grooming candidates at the lower level and let them gain experience to later run for Governor or Senator or Congressman.
Walker shouldn't run for Senate, and no my reasoning has nothing to do with Thune or Cornyn's reasoning.
Another thing is Walker’s son is openly homosexual. No doubt that he’ll probably stump for his Dad on the campaign trail. That’s going to turn off tons of GA voters in rural and suburban areas.
This is the RINO Club in DC sending a Warning Shot that they are prepared to SMEAR Walker Exactly as they have other Southern Conservatives. The message is Don’t do it Walker or we will assist the Dems in Destroying YOU.
Walker isn’t a shoe in given the fact that the cowards in the Georgia legislature didn’t do much of anything about ‘mail in voting and drop boxes’.
And we still have to deal with covid variant Kilo, Lima, Mike, and maybe November some time next fall. Which will enable more cheating than last year.

Walker is a Trump guy. They know it. And he’s got a certain level of ‘stardom’ walking in the door. He isn’t a no-name showing up on Day 1.
And he’d be in the ultimate Boys Club, the US Senate. And if he holds true to what many hope he’s all about, he has the potential to turn that place upside down.
Cornyn doesn’t like Herschel Walker? Walker is now my favorite candidate.
You mean like Brian Kemp, Geoff Duncan, Brad Raffensberger, Chris Carr? Or how about the most corrupt POS in the legislature, House leader David Ralston? Will any of them work for you?
If walker runs and wins, if nothing else, he’ll have someone like Donald Trump to look to and confer with. As a Georgian, I’m ok with that.
