By a six point spread! In Texas! Unbelievable, indeed, and not good. There must be some back story here. Does Texas have an open primary and Dem crossover did this?

Yes. I have never understood this. It opens up a primary to meddling by the opposite party.

Why post every thought? This was a general election between 2 Republicans. All voters could vote.

This was a runoff between to gop candidates. Dems voted to ‘get Trump’.

It was a local general election. Of course democrats could vote. Only primaries are closed at least in some states.

It wasn’t a primary. This was the special general election. The Dems were wiped out in the jungle primary - two Republicans advanced to the general election. So this election was by the electorate at large - easy for the Dems to influence...since both candidates were Republicans, both would get Republican support and if the Democrats backed one candidate that would be enough to put them over the top.

Stephen Daniel, the Democratic nominee for the district in 2020, said that he would be voting for Ellzey and urged other Democrats to do the same in order “to make sure the Trump-endorsed Susan Wright loses.”-——————
