Simone Biles, the superstar gymnast from the U.S., will not participate in the individual all-around competition at the Tokyo Games and will instead focus on her mental well-being, USA Gymnastics said in a statement early Wednesday.
The decision comes a day after she pulled out of the team all-around competition.
Jade Carey, who finished ninth in qualifying, will take Biles’ place in the individual all-around competition.
"After further medical evaluation, Simone Biles has withdrawn from the final individual all-around competition at the Tokyo Olympic Games," USA Gymnastics said in a statement posted on Twitter Wednesday night. "We wholeheartedly support Simone's decision and applaud her bravery in prioritizing her well-being. Her courage shows, yet again, why she is a role model for so many."
The statement said Biles will be evaluated daily to see if she can "participate in next week’s individual event finals."

I didn’t know that (I only follow the Seahawks) - but that’s what I mean, they tough it out. Of course it isn’t a mental thing that might be dangerous.
I wonder if any race car drivers have ever quit mid race because they weren’t quite at their top concentration level? Not sure I can see Richard Petty coming off the track on lap 12 and saying he needs to quit and practice mindfulness.
role-model?
Oh yeah.
She would never make it on a relay team.
I’d appreciate her life story,, but really?
Quit?

Coxless? That sounds about right.
I just found an interview of Biles. I never paid attention to her politics, but it turns out, she is pro-BLM (no surprise there). She sounds like many people her age. Maybe she is “woke.”
But, has she ever disrespected the flag, for example? Not that I’ve heard. She even carried the U.S. flag in 2016.
It seems people are just mad that she dropped out. They expected her to win everything for the U.S. team, but her good run might be reaching its end.
It just came out last week that Brady played all last season with a torn MCL.
