Daily COVID Deaths in Sweden Hit Zero, as Other Nations Brace for More Lockdown

More than 100,000 people flooded streets in France over the weekend and multiple COVID vaccination centers were vandalized as opposition grew to the government’s most recent pandemic strategy. In President Emmanuel Macron’s latest incarnation of lockdowns, government officials have decreed that unvaccinated individuals will no longer be allowed to enter cafes, restaurants, theaters, public transportation and more.

Needless to say, people were not happy.

COVID Fears Grow — New Restrictions Are Imposed

France’s approach is unique, but it’s just one of many countries around the world imposing new restrictions as fears grow over a new variant of COVID-19. Australia’s recent restrictions have placed half the country under strict lockdown — even though a record 82,000 tests had identified just 111 new coronavirus cases — while restaurants in Portugal are struggling to survive amid newly-imposed restrictions.

One country not making much news is Sweden.

Sweden Got It Right In Response to COVID-19

Sweden, of course, was maligned in 2020 for foregoing a strict lockdown. The Guardian called its approach “a catastrophe” in the making, while CBS News said Sweden had become “an example of how not to handle COVID-19.”

Despite these criticisms, Sweden’s laissez-faire approach to the pandemic continues today. In contrast to its European neighbors, Sweden is welcoming tourists. Businesses and schools are open with almost no restrictions. And as far as masks are concerned, not only is there no mandate in place, Swedish health officials are not even recommending them.

What are the results of Sweden’s much-derided laissez-faire policy? Data show the 7-day rolling average for COVID deaths yesterday was zero (see below). As in nada. And it’s been at zero for about a week...

They’re at herd immunity levels - naturally - and probably not engaging in fake tests.

And they did all that without locdowns, without compulsory masks, without shutting down restaurants, cinemas, etc, without destroying businesses etc.

Off the pace early, here comes Sweden, past the quarter pole, past USA with little Fauci in the saddle, sprinting down the stretch for the COVID win.

Sweden had the worst economic performance in Scandanavia, 32% annualized decline in Q22020, same as ours. They had the most deaths in Scandinavia (10 times more per capita than Norway).

On the plus side they kept their kids in school. They have more herd immunity than their neighbors now, but those other countries have very low or no deaths also. I would not consider Sweden a success story, just another example of how the pandemic wins sooner or later.

Their businesses were just as shut down as ours last spring as people simply stayed home. They didn't have a lockdown, but they locked themselves down.

That's the way it should be. I am not bothered if some paranoid Howard Hughes wannabe keeps locking himself in his house all day, hides under his bed,
perpetually keeps washing his hands, keeps hiding from everybody etc etc. Everybody is free to act like lunatic.
My problem is having deranged Dem governors like Gretchen Whitmar trying to force sane people like me to act like a lunatic too.

And their businesses were NOT shut down like in the blue states of America.
Restaurants were open, cinemas were open, schools were open, offices were open people were free to go and come as they pleased. However, you could put on masks, stay at home etc etc if that is what you wanted to do.

The Swedish government didn't shut down businesses and that's good. The bad part is that the people didn't go out and their economy crashed like ours did in the second quarter last year.

I’ve said the same about people are free to get together and live like commies...I’d actually have more respect for them..than these idiots that try to force everyone to live that way..particularly via government.
