TOKYO — Simone Biles was pulled from the team competition here Tuesday after an awkward, low-scoring attempt on vault, leaving the United States, which was already locked in a tough battle with Russia, in serious trouble as it seeks its third consecutive gold medal.
Biles bailed out on her expected vault, attempting just a Yurchenko 1.5. She still needed a massive bounce/stumble upon landing.
She looked to be in tears as she left the mat and then soon walked out of the arena floor with a trainer from USA Gymnastics.
She did not appear to suffer any obvious physical injury during her attempt. NBC reported that she was dealing with a “mental issue” not a physical one. USA Gymnastics would just describe it as a "medical issue."

It’s just a disaster. And the Russians had two meltdowns on beam but Americans were underscored on that apparatus so it didn’t really matter. So much corruption. So much media nonsense. The Olympics aren’t fun anymore.
Sports that depend on judges really isn’t a sport.

Simone Biles has made a point of being public friends with another gymnast who the left has been trying to cancel due to controversial Instagram posts, so it would surprise me if she’s personally anymore “woke” than USA Gymnastics forces her to be.
NBC built their entire advertising scheme around Biles. Certainly not fair for her but she liked endorsement flow, so.
was thinking the same thing....all i hear is “female this...and female that”...how theres more female athletes there than male...exactly what are they trying to prove??...now the uniforms are sexist...blah blah blah...give out gold medals in man hating and be done with it...because i am....

The Russians did do solid on the final floor apparatus, so the overall win may not have been undeserved, but then one has to think about how the lowball scoring earlier might have impacted the Americans psychologically on that event and so on. It’s just the messiest women’s final I’ve ever seen.

According to the story this was to be her “send off” indicating this was her last competition. I seriously doubt she would want to go out in this way.

They and the rest of the media have been hyping her for 5+ years now, “the GOAT”, etc. She’s good but all the gushing is overdone, gee wonder why?
One of her teammates got a shockingly low score in an event, the balance beam I think.
Even the commentators noticed it - makes one suspicious the judges are determined to push the designated favorites. Maybe a bit of guilt started sinking in.
