A new study from Denmark reveals that the connection between people who experience schizophrenia and who smoke a problematic amount of weed is on the rise, CNN reports.
The study, which was published in the medical journal JAMA Psychiatry, shows that the link between the mental health disorder and cannabis use disorder in Denmark was two percent in 1995, four percent in 200, and eight percent in 2010. Cannabis use disorder is the clinical name for cannabis addiction.
“I think it is highly important to use both our study and other studies to highlight and emphasize that cannabis use is not harmless,” Carsten Hjorthøj, an associate professor at the Copenhagen Research Center for Mental Health and an author of the study, told the outlet.
“There is, unfortunately, evidence to suggest that cannabis is increasingly seen as a somewhat harmless substance,” he added. “This is unfortunate since we see links with schizophrenia, poorer cognitive function, substance use disorders, etc.”

From a better written article: “In 1995, 2% of schizophrenia diagnoses in the country were associated with cannabis use disorder. In 2000, it increased to around 4%. Since 2010, that figure increased to 8%, the study found.”
No implication there of a rise in schizophrenia - just a rise in pot use among schizophrenics.
I’ve known quite a few long-term weed users who have become, increasingly, bat-schiff crazy. Not all, but too many to be able to deny it. I’m not talking about occasional users, but daily users.
One toke over the line?
Apparently. 🤣

“Say What? “..in Denmark was two percent in 1995, four percent in 200, and eight percent in 2010.”
The weed is more potent, so more psychosis.
“more psychosis.”
Not so - see post #21.
Some folks with Schizophrenia will say that they don’t want the pills prescribed by the doctor, but figure that Cannabis provides some ‘relief’. The problem here, by the time you get to the THC levels (lot more than the traditional 1960s pot), and use for 2 to 3 times a day....they are simply making a secondary problem.
Dave’s not Dave man.
Put down the bong and be the person God wanted you to be.
schizophrenia is "a long-term mental disorder of a type involving a breakdown in the relation between thought, emotion, and behavior, leading to faulty perception, inappropriate actions and feelings, withdrawal from reality and personal relationships into fantasy and delusion, and a sense of mental fragmentation."Excuse me, but that is the definition of Pothead.
Why is this so called study telling us something that is common knowledge?
