TOKYO (AP) — Nobody was watching Ahmed Hafnaoui in lane eight of the Olympic pool.
All eyes were on the Tunisian teenager at the finish.
Hafnaoui was the stunning winner of the 400-meter freestyle at the Tokyo Games on Sunday, beating a field of faster and older swimmers. The 18-year-old finished in 3 minutes, 43.26 seconds, punctuating his victory with loud yelling that echoed in the mostly empty 15,000-seat arena.

Good for the Tunisians.
I’m still quietly rooting for Hammer Thrower Gwen Berry to lose at the Olympics. She is the one who turned her back on the flag during the national anthem being played.

That’s what the Olympics should be about, not a bunch of millionaires, who hate their country, strutting around.
“I was in tears because when I see the flag of my country and I hear the anthem in the background, it was great,” he said. “I’m so proud of it. I dedicate it to all the Tunisian people.”
I’m old enough to remember when American athletes would say the same. That is, I’m more than 6 years old.
Where are all the tunas?
Absolutely, nice to see an athlete, not an ego who does athletics.
Good for him!
What country did he train in ?
US or Britain or Italy ?
Very pleased for him. Sometimes things just roll your way.
We watched some archery yesterday, really cool equipment and techniques.
I will loudly be rooting for her to foul every throw.
The teen who trains in the capital of Tunis is the North Africa country’s fourth Olympic gold medalist.
But it does mention later that....Next year, he said he plans to attend college in the U.S.
Quietly? No quietly about it here. I would be very disappointed if she wins anything. I don’t mindlessly just root for the Americans. Especially ones who hate their country.
That being said, I AM rooting for the weightlifting dude from New Zealand who thinks he’s a chick. Anything to bring this transgender insanity to a head.
Writer Gertrude Stein would have looked at that photo of Tunisia and said: “There is no ‘there’ there!”
If it’s any consolation, I speed watched yesterday’s coverage and there was a clip of our swim team in a big circle, singing God Bless America
Didn’t General Patton go through there?
If I’m not mistaken...some US troops are still stationed there.
He had the element of surprise .
No one knew him .
