AOC Won't Want the Country to See This Powerful Video of a Cuban Man Walking Into an American Supermarket for the First Time
Western Journal ^ | July 24, 2021 | Isa Cox

The firebrand Democratic socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York has made a name for herself promoting the glories of socialism while conspicuously ignoring its downfalls.

While those with even a cursory understanding of world history over the last century often find it astounding that there is so much ignorance surrounding the way socialism has always — always — played out when applied to nations like Russia, Venezuela and Cuba, AOC’s base is not known for their economic savvy but rather that same, old, ancient human sin of covetousness that has led millions to believe the state can afford them what fortune has not: provision and comfort.

It is, of course, authoritarianism and poverty that Marxist governments are best adept at establishing, as, again, history blatantly shows us.

Back in the 80s a Polish cousin came from behind the Iron Curtain to visit. He used to like to just wander the aisles in the supermarket and marvel.

Unfortunately the couple still has some left of center views. There were a few videos that left me with a raised eyebrow, but it’s still heart warming to see their reactions.

There are people who have been born with an uncommon amount of privilege that really, honestly, sincerely, do not BELIEVE that those of economic disadvantage deserve even to KNOW about the advantages and perquisites of having a vast plethora of goods readily available and within one’s reach.

And that these same disadvantaged individuals can have the opportunity to possess those goods legally and with the right of quiet enjoyment of those goods.

Under capitalism the food is lined up for you, under socialism/communism you line up for the food.

I watched some video from the Soviet Union. The guy saw a line and ran to it. “I have no idea what this line is for. But obviously it is for something that people want - so I’m in it.”

He explained that it didn’t matter what store the line was for. It might be a clothing store, but the store owner knows somebody that had wholesale beef - so the store is selling beef that day!

You see a line, you get in it. At least you know it is a store that has SOMETHING for sale!

Somewhere on YouTube there is a video of an American family living in Siberia in the 2020s. They go to the local department store - there they see and buy all sorts of stuff - the very well stocked store is similar to a US Walmart.

Made me cry. When I was a kid my father, rector of a church in Atlanta and himself a refugee from WWII Europe was active in helping refugees from among other countries CUBA settle in Atlanta. One Cuban had been a doctor in Cuba but was working as a janitor at the Plaza Apartments on Ponce de Leon. And was happy to be doing it. A life lesson for a smart aleck young teen for sure.

Had an exchange student from Kyrgyzstan in the late ‘90s. He was the same way.

Having lived in Berlin during the Soviet occupation, East Berlin was pretty much devoid of groceries. Windows were full but shelves were empty. Bananas were prized.

Anyone know how he got here? I thought Cubans weren’t allowed to leave Cuba, yet alone come to America, and according to our head of Homeland Security, anyone who makes it to our shores would be returned to the island.

I visited Moscow in the 70s. The grocery store had beets, cabbage, potatoes. Waited in line for bread and chai. The fish store had it displayed on racks of ice, the meat store was pricey but looked like the butcher’s back office.

The linen department of GUM was a single glass case of white sheets & pillowcases (and a blanket or two).

That was about it. Just goes to show the difference between the hard communism of the Cold War and the post-glasnost era. (Thanks to Walesa, Reagan, Thatcher & Pope John Paul II (in no particular order))

That’s why they don’t want to teach history - the current elites want to replicate the past because they see how the apparatchiks can thrive under such a system.

Why was the first store ALDI they browsed around in, they were the only people there, especially in Miami we’re it should be crowded like a third world market, but it looks like s creepy ghost town? Also when it showed the store shelves in Cubs completely empty, how are there not people dropping like flowers from starvation?

In 2015, "Bernie Sanders: Don't Need 23 Choices of Deodorant, 18 Choices of Sneakers When Kids Are Going Hungry"

"The Socialist running for president says he doesn't begrudge Hillary Clinton for the money she makes giving speeches." but, "You can't just continue growth for the sake of growth in a world in which we are struggling with climate change and all kinds of environmental problems. All right?"

Economic growth, ignited by the freeing of markets, has lifted more people out of poverty in the last century than any other force in history!

If there’s a Publix nearby most aren’t going to bother with the inferior Aldi.

My dad was a professor of law in Cuba. Lawyers are not needed in totalitarian countries. At age 50 he brought my family out of Cuba to Virginia (I was seven). He wanted freedom for his kids and his first job was at 7-11.

Even where i live in sw Florida, if there is a Publix near a Winn Dixie ive never seen the WinnDixie as much of a ghost town as that ALDI. And that MIAMI ALDI looked brand new and clean. I don’t even shop at Publix anymore and for a good part of 20 years do all my grocery shopping at Costco, Sams, or BJ’s. Publix charges more for everything so i don’t bother.

Back around 1981 I worked with a guy named Tony, who was from Cuba. Tony LOVED the USofA. Tony participated in the Cuban Boat lift of 1980. Back then he told me of a story about an old man he helped bring over to Miami, who dropped to his knees and cried when he entered a supermarket.
