I loved that he took great exception to over priced Starbucks style coffee. True NY style!

I heard him once on a live call-in show in NYC, he was very smart and analytical. A young woman called in with a sort of snarky, challenging question, and he handled her with a mixture of kindness and razor-sharp thinking. He took apart her argument piece by piece, showing where she had gone off the rails while also saying what she was right about. I was very impressed by how he kept his cool and his sense of humor, with terrific command of the facts and a powerful mind.
One specific thing I remember was that he very carefully separated the elements of her argument into a “fact” pile, an “opinion” pile, and an “emotion” pile. There was no question that he had understood every thing she said.
This was maybe twenty-five years ago. It was the first time I ever heard him in a live performance, although I had heard that he was a conservative.
