Boris Johnson's poll lead collapses - and just 25% think he's a "good" Prime Minister

A new YouGov poll found the Tories on 38% - six points down from the previous week and just four points ahead of Labour

Boris Johnson’s poll lead over Labour has collapsed to just four points, on the day he was supposed to be celebrating a triumphant two years in office.

According to the Times, Mr Johnson was planning an event in Downing Street to mark his second year in Number 10 - and “freedom week”.

Instead the Prime Minister remained in self-isolation in Chequers, after being exposed to Covid-19 in a face to face meeting with Health Secretary Sajid Javid last Sunday.

And a new YouGov poll found the Tories on 38% - six points down from the previous week.

Labour, meanwhile, were three points up on 34%.

The four point poll lead is Johnson’s slimmest since February, during the UK’s third Covid-19 lockdown.

Hopefully the party gets the message and dumps the guy...

The guy just won the general election just over a year ago.
Not to mention the Mirror is hard core Labour Party supporter. They have been for as long as I remember ( the paper used to be owned by Rupert Murdoch at one time). Plus The Labour Party has their own problems.
Not saying Boris Johnson is great, but if elections were held today, he'd win.

You don’t run for PM, like you do for President here, it’s about the Party that controls Parliament, they then choose the PM.

Churchill would have wiped the floor with Atlee in 1945, if it were head-to-head, but the Labour Party routed the Tories in the Parliamentary elections.

The main impression I get here is that this is all about Johnson himself and really nothing to do with Labour’s sudden appeal. I’ve read comments from Nigel Farage that say that Labour basically kissed the working class and rural vote goodbye that good while ago now.

I know that. That's how Margaret Thatcher was removed from power and replaced by John Major. Same with Johnson replacing Theresa May.
However, I currently don't see anyone in the Conservative Party who has the votes to beat Boris Johnson. But then a week is a long time in politics.

Correct. Think Speaker of the House of Representatives being chosen as president by the majority of members.

Now think of all those competing districts (swing districts, etc) and it can turn against him very quickly.

In fact he needs to do really well due to the imbalance in metropolitan areas although some districts will be re-drawn but it’s not easy for a Conservative put it that way.

London for example is heavily socialist now and that is a lot of seats.

It helps that the opposition sucks though so I’m sure Joe is right but the election wont be for a few years.

The question is do the members stick with him or put someone else in his place?

I think it could be more a backlash against everybody who was in power during the COVID mess. People want a change and aren’t certain about what that change should be. They just want to put everything 2020 behind them.

Yep they dumped Thatcher and Boris ain’t no Thatcher that’s for sure.

They can easily replace him if things turn sour but I agree this is a bit premature.

At first, I thought Johnson would the the UK's version of Donald Trump (he even had the hair for it).

Instead, he's fallen in line with the Leftist globalist. How disappointing.

There could be a lot of problems for Boris particularly as he has been paying 80% of peoples wages for the last 18 months and that is due to stop in September.

Time for people to get back to work the only problem is many have enjoyed their time and may not want to (or want to work from home) and employers strapped for cash may decide to make mass redundancies.

Add to this the inflation and a possible housing boom going bust and it’s not a good situation...

Churchill won WW2 in 1945. He was taken out of the PM role by the British people later in 1945.

But I see your point, how could he have fallen so far in just one year? It's not like the last year had any major events ... oh. Oh yeah. Huh. I guess a policy of permanent oppressive lockdowns wasn't as popular one one would think.

The vaccine passports he is trying to push through will be the final nail in his coffin.

I cannot see him getting it through and if he does there will be a lot of unrest

UK Leftists allowed Churchill to be PM as long as he was needed to save the USSR from Hitler.

When the war was over, and Churchill was anti-Communist, he had to go.

Tends to be forgotten that Churchill returned to power only 5 years later, as leader of the Conservatives in the 1950 General Election. That was the only election Churchill ever won as party leader.
Churchill personally was never ‘rejected’. He continued to be elected by massive majorities until he finally retired from Parliament in the early 1960s, shortly before his death. Such was his stature that the other main parties refused to stand candidates against him - a very rare tribute.

Correction - that should be the 1951 General Election (which of course was 6 years later, not 5) - Labour narrowly won in 1950.

“The vaccine passports he is trying to push through will be the final nail in his coffin.”

Ding, ding, ding, winner. Finally, someone points out the reason BoJo went from crushing elitist Labor (Brexit) to crashing: lockdowns and more recently pushing a vax passport by September.

Explosive protests breaking out all over Europe as the elites look to impose permanent controls over populations.

France, Italy, Germany, they have been going all-in on this totalitarian dream.

BoJo signed up. Eric Clapton among others in the U.K. say GFY. 👊🏽🏥🤹🏼‍♀️
