US, Germany Threaten Retaliatory Action Against Russia in Draft Nord Stream 2 Accord

As the US and Germany have reportedly reached a deal on the Nord Stream 2 project, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday, citing the obtained draft text of the agreement, that it would threaten sanctions and other measures if Russia tried to use energy as a "weapon" against Ukraine, though it did not specify what actions could provoke the countermeasures.

...

The almost completed Russia-led project intends to transmit natural gas directly from Russia to Germany. As a strong opponent of Nord Stream 2 and a self-proclaimed proponent of European energy independence, Washington has levied repeated rounds of sanctions on firms and individuals involved in the project.
The German government, on the other hand, continues to back the pipeline's construction and has slammed Washington's efforts to sabotage it.

The US and EU have agreed that the pipeline should not be used to exert pressure on Ukraine and that Kiev should continue to have access to gas transit.
Russia, for its part, has always maintained that the project is of a purely commercial nature and has asked others to refrain from politicizing the matter.

Making a mess of Ukraine, Russia should pick up the tab.

Nice! Ain't gonna happen.

LMAO. Once the Euros become dependent on Russian energy there is no way the Euro’s will jeopardize that dependence and side with any country against Russia. This statement is nothing but a pathetic Political Cover Statement for the Extremely Naive.

Ukraine is already circling the drain, and there’s nothing the Neo-liberals can do to stop.

Germany is shutting down all her Nuclear Power Plants as of 2022 and all coal fired plants by 2038. And where will their power come from.

This so called agreement is absolutely worthless....Merkel knows it and Russia knows it. Joe...knows nothing.

Except $10.5 Bill wasted on the pipeline and screwed up Ukraine in wake of Washington meddling.

The pipeline through Ukraine was their life saver and all of central Europe economies were affected by these events.

Eventually Russia will have to save Ukraine from starvation. US will do nothing, just move on and destroy next country. Will it be Cuba? I think, yes!

Looking at the electricity situation in Ukraine, wishing to sell their nuclear generated electricity to Europe, and disconnecting from Russia and Belarus, but then wanting to buy electricity from Europe...

Huh?
the range of exchange of capacity with the Russian Federation and Belarus is 3 thousand MW. After disconnection as a result of synchronization with Europe, Ukraine will have 2.2-2.3 thousand MW. This is equivalent to the capacity of two nuclear and one thermal power units and is equal to about 10% of the volume of electricity consumption in our country. Accordingly, the impact of European prices on Ukrainian prices will be significant.

So while consumers are leery, the Ukraine government says, “ That’s how the free market works”.

Maybe they should insert ‘Germany’ along with ‘Ukraine’ in that clause. Or Germany may find the faucet turned off to them as well, and then what would Germany do about Merkel’s pretend we’re not importing LNG, ‘green Germany’ claim?

Ukraine still dammed the only canal carrying fresh water to Crimea. Water for Gas?

The main reason DC wants gas traversing Ukraine is so they can get paid the grifters cut. They can’t get their corrupt hands on Nordstream. Follow the money.

I wonder what is in the agreement.

I bet Germany obliged the next time Ukraine switches the gas off and claims that Russia did it, to cut NSII either, leaving itself freezing.
