Being self hosted definitely helps. Beyond that, this site does have to travel across other servers to get to us and there is a company somewhere that can shut down the domain name. I suppose the IP could still be used. Then again, it could be blocked on various servers pretty easily. The path from our browsers to the Robinson’s web server is far from being as the crow flies aka a direct connection.
Too bad ham radio is so complex and equipment fairly expensive when it comes to a reliable signal from one corner of the country to the other.
There are other internet communication techniques aside from a central website/target but they’re techie.
Actualy the licence is fairly easy to obtain, and a handheld entry level dual band 2meter/440 radio can be obtained for less than $50. In our area we have established reapeaters to improve the reach of these frequencies. Remember without coms you have nothing, radio is much harder to shut down than the internet.
