Texas Senate passes voting bill despite Democrats fleeing the state
NY Post ^ | 07/14/2021 | Samuel Chamberlin

The Texas state Senate approved a sweeping election reform bill Tuesday night, one day after dozens of House Democrats fled the state to prevent the chamber from taking up the legislation.

The state Senate approved the bill on an 18-4 party-line vote. Nine Senate Democrats had joined 51 of their House colleagues in hightailing it to Washington, DC, though this was not enough to deny the upper chamber a quorum.

However, the legislation is now stalled due to the absence of a quorum in the House.

Republicans say the measures in the bill — which include ending drive-thru and 24-hour polling places, banning ballot drop boxes, and empowering partisan poll watchers — are designed to ensure the integrity of the vote by preventing voter fraud. Democrats say they make it harder for poor people and minorities to cast ballots.

Can they make it a felony? And then have them be disqualified to hold office, removed and hold special elections?

The Democrats want to remake the Nation into a Tammany-Hall type political machine.

To do so, they need to be able to coerce/bribe voters to keep the Democrats in power forever.

That is the entire purpose of HR-1.

It makes voting easy, not only to make fraud easy, but to make coercion and vote-bribery easy.

The Texas Senate passed the Bill, not the Texas House.

The Texas House can’t pass it until there is a Quorum, so it is stalled for the time being.

Apparently “democracy” is whatever the DEMONCRATS say it is.

No. It passed the Senate, it didn’t pass the House. It can’t pass the House without a quorum.

There is no mechanism for “declaring seats vacant.”

Does the bill require the state to go back to dumb voting machines?

If not, big whoop.

Thus might apply, however. From the state’s constitution...

Section 15
Text of Section 15:
Disrespectful or Disorderly Conduct; Obstruction of Proceedings

Each House may punish, by imprisonment, during its sessions, any person not a member, for disrespectful or disorderly conduct in its presence, or for obstructing any of its proceedings; provided, such imprisonment shall not, at any one time, exceed forty-eight hours.[1

What law? We have laws? Where? No one seems to pay attention to them any more. So just do it.

You mean they don’t just make up laws? We haven’t been locked down and forced to wear masks for a year and a half? Landlords haven’t been denied rents?

Can they make it a felony? And then have them be disqualified to hold office, removed and hold special elections?

Yes, but only if they have the nerve to act like Democrats.

Who paid for their beer and bus ride to the airport?

Who paid for their private jet to DC?

Who paid for their housing in DC while they shirk their responsibilities in Texas?

According to the Texas State Constitution:

Article 16 Section 41:

Sec. 41. BRIBERY AND SOLICITATION OR ACCEPTANCE OF BRIBES. Any person who shall, directly or indirectly, offer, give, or promise, any money or thing of value, testimonial, privilege or personal advantage, to any executive or judicial officer or member of the Legislature to influence him in the performance of any of his public or official duties, shall be guilty of bribery, and be punished in such manner as shall be provided by law. And any member of the Legislature or executive or judicial officer who shall solicit, demand or receive, or consent to receive, directly or indirectly, for himself, or for another, from any company, corporation or person, any money, appointment, employment, testimonial, reward, thing of value or employment, or of personal advantage or promise thereof, for his vote or official influence, or for withholding the same, or with any understanding, expressed or implied, that his vote or official action shall be in any way influenced thereby, or who shall solicit, demand and receive any such money or other advantage matter or thing aforesaid for another, as the consideration of his vote or official influence, in consideration of the payment or promise of such money, advantage, matter or thing to another, shall be held guilty of bribery, within the meaning of the Constitution, and shall incur the disabilities provided for said offenses, with a forfeiture of the office they may hold, and such other additional punishment as is or shall be provided by law.
Find out who's bankrolling this and then declare that the fleeing Democrats took a bribe under the Texas Constitution to withhold their votes.

Then expel them and call for new elections to fill the vacancies.

While the seats are vacant, a new quorum can be reached with the sitting House. That's when they can take the vote.

There must be some rule that can be used or made by the House leadership to declare these representative’s districts abandoned after a certain period of time, then proceed to dismiss them and declare new elections, with appointed representatives for the interim...
