>> “They [the Cubans] can trade with just about any other country in the world.” <<
Yes, they’ve had over half a century to develop trade with others. Besides, the Communist line used to be that the United States exploited the third-world countries it traded with. Yet now they complain that it harms them by not trading with them. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
Socialism works — kind of, sort of, maybe — if capitalism agrees to prop it up. If capitalists walk away and refuse to exploit poor socialist countries, then all hope is lost. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
“Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.”
I said the same thing, if we trade with them and help prop up the government, technically we are helping a dictatorship which we have gotten critised for in the past, if we don’t then it is or fault when they fail, some people are like women, dont know what the heck they want /sarc.
Also I will argue, just like all economic and poltical systems, there is a shelf life, the system in cuba was on the lesser end. Embargo or no embargo Communism in Cuba was going to die, case in point Romania for example.
