Democratic lawmakers in Texas fled the state on Monday, potentially torpedoing an ongoing special session called by Republicans to take up new voting restrictions and other GOP priorities.
At least 50 House Democrats landed in Washington late on Monday. The exodus denies Republicans the required two-thirds attendance level to conduct business, calling into doubt whether plans to take up voting legislation this week could proceed.
In the statement, Democratic leaders said they planned to pressure Congress to pass new federal voting legislation.
“Today, Texas House Democrats stand united in our decision to break quorum and refuse to let the Republican-led legislature force through dangerous legislation that would trample on Texans’ freedom to vote,” said five top Democrats in the state House, including Democratic Caucus Chair Chris Turner. “We are now taking the fight to our nation’s Capitol. We are living on borrowed time in Texas. We need Congress to act now to pass the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act to protect Texans — and all Americans — from the Trump Republicans’ nationwide war on democracy.”

The Party of No
Texas have proceedures for a congress that does this?
good question because they have done this before.
The only thing the legislation restricts, is the ability to cheat.
Gov Abbott may have to send the Rangers out to retreive them...again.
The Texas Rangers did so once before, maybe late 70's early 80's.
If Governor Abbott gets the back he might be re-elected. If he doesn’t then he is guaranteed to become a a political zombie - it speaks but it is already dead.
If you can’t get an ID or find time to go to a polling station in 3 weeks, you are a danger to the country and should not vote at all
Jail
Not the first time the communists did this sicko stunt. They love government power but only as long as they’re wielding it. Let the public choose a different policy and they act like little babies throwing their pablum
On the floor
Can the governor block them from returning due to COVID protocols or some crap like that? They’ll get a lot more done without libtards in office.
Restrictive my rear.
More illegal behavior by democrats.
All you have to do is this, Texas Republican Party:
1. Let them stay as long as they want.
2. Get on their Instagram and Facebooks and d/l all the pictures they take whining and dining in DC.
3. Wait about 3-4 days, then drop a bomb in their voting districts - just have a short 30 second plug - show those pictures you collected and estimate the price.
4. They’ll be back that day.
Good luck doing that. First, they fled to DC, which is supposed to prevent the Texas Rangers from legally entering the district to apprehend them. Second, nearly all of the Texas DEMs are women. Going to be a bad look trying to drag them into custody. Just saying. The DEMs plan well, and the rest of the country (politicians and citizens) are idiots.
Republicans use this tactic to stop tax increases and gun grabbing legislations. Dems need to keep stuffing the ballot box or never win.
In DC? Looks like they fled the state.
Are their seats vacant? Can they be filled if vacant?
Dems/Marxists/progressives just HATE free and fair elections and view them as a threat to their unpopular acquisition of power and control.
And, they are not above embarrassingly obvious and clumsily constructed lies to justify their goal of compromised elections.
Bounty Hunters have the authority IF there is a bond or Gov Abbott sets a reward on their apprehension and return to Texas.
Did you see that case of beer they had on a seat in that plane? They are going to 🎉.
The gop in Texas knew they would do this and yet let them go home. If they really wanted to get it passed, it would be passed. This is all show for the masses.
