Manhunt is launched for inmate 'with ties to the Russian mob' who escaped floating NYC prison barge through his cell window

An inmate thought to have ties with the Russian mob who managed to escape from a floating jail in New York has been caught 12 hours after he escaped.

David Mordukhaev's prison break occured early on Saturday morning just hours after suspicious federal investigators had called the Vernon C. Bain Correctional Facility to check on him at around 1am.

At the time, officials were informed that Mordukhaev, 30, was indeed still inside his cell.

When a second call was placed at 4.30am, Mordukhaev was nowhere to be found. Only his prison clothes remained.

The timeline of his escape remains murky as it is not 100 percent certain if guards physically checked his cell when the first request was made.

Mordukhaev, who is 5'8" and weighs 220 pounds, is believed to have escaped from the prison barge docked in The Bronx through his cell window.

Best familiarize yourself with them...
Probably a lot of us will end up in one of them (or worse) before the communists are through...

When Joepedo and knees-Harris call for “hard times” for the unvaccinated and other terrorists, they ain’t talking about fun in bed...

Great and colorful story. We need these to liven up the site.

The idea of being at sea could be on the Love Boat or even Sea Hunt. On the Love Boat Lauren Tewes could talk him into giving up and Captain Stubing —the late Gavin McLeod) could sternly tell the purser and Doc to hold him while he put handcuffs on the guy.

But there could have been a Mannix or Mike Hammer screenplay there.

Yeah, probably the origin of “Hey, I didn’t mean to barge in.”

Maybe not.

Now a female prisoner.....even some intrepid FReepers would have volunteered to be deputized for the search. Just another sacrifice.

They're experienced at watching "women in prison" movies.

I’m the only one curious as to how federal officials were ‘suspicious’ about an inmate in a city jail cell?

smh

For others curious about the ‘floating barge’ (far from it):

The Power of F.R. I guess (Man is caught)

Yes. The black and white TV series Gangbusters as well as the later Efrem Zimbalist FBI had "current most wanted fugitives" at the end of episodes.

We'll do our part for justice here.

If he floated a prison barge through his cell window, he deserves to be free.

The barge falls under the New York City Department of Corrections and is part of the vast Rikers Island jail complex, the world’s largest penal colony. The prison barge was built in New Orleans for $161 million and brought to New York in 1992 to reduce overcrowding on the island’s land-bound buildings. Since the jail is not permanently moored to the shore, Coast Guard regulations require that she have 3 maritime crew on board at all time, including a mate, an engineer and an oiler.
