I think the Japs could whip out nuclear warhead in about 2 seconds. But I also think the war deterrent effect of nuclear weapons is way over blown.

You all Chines mookabookers threaten Taiwan?
With it filled to overflowing,
What happens if a MOAB hits your big ass damn?
Game, set, match.
After giving the world the China flu, it would be much deserved.
Go after ataiwan?
Hit Japan?
Pay back can be a Mother.

All we have to do is embargo grain exports to China and they starve. Of course, the CCP has never shown much concern for its own people anyway.

Dream on. The CCP is a hundred-year-old entity whose power is increasing.

True that, but where would that MOAB come from? Certainly not the Biden crowd.

No. As much as we would like to believe the author, I think his analysis is doubtful; that he underestimates the power and situational adaptability of the CCP. During Mao’s time and following the disasters of the “great leap forward” and the “cultural revolution”, the CCP looked more precarious in holding onto power than it does today. The CCP controlled military will not let the CCP fall, as Tienanmen Square showed. THAT has not changed.

Not to worry. If the CCP does invade Taiwan and the PLA, PLAN and PLAAF prove weak. Biden will come to their aid and help them take Taiwan.

Article continues:

He explained: “If you look beyond that facade, economically China is more fragile than it lets on. This is something that experts have discussed for a decade.

“The economic model of this very rapid growth is unstable, unsustainable, and major reforms are needed.

“Pundits say if reforms are not undertaken in the near future what you could see is a flatlining of Chinese growth as we saw with Japan in the 1990s.

“China wouldn’t be engaging in the extraordinary levels of censorship and repression if it felt secure, if it felt legitimate, so there will be a legitimate crisis on the horizon.

“The danger of conflict erupting because of an ill-considered move by China has risen considerably.

“Xi has purged senior military ranks. While talk of an invasion of Taiwan has dominated, China may be more fragile militarily than we thought.

“Any difficulty in achieving the mission to invade Taiwan could end in its own regime collapse.

“It could lead to a crisis. He has purged both the officer core and the security services and he has surrounded himself with people who won’t challenge him.

“Nobody who is not approved by the party is given a voice at all and outside news is systematically suppressed.”

This comes as relations between the West and China has worsened in recent months over trade and the pandemic.

The issue of Taiwan is also a major source of tension between China and the US.

However, Cai Xia, a leading Chinese dissident and scholar, recently said the Communist regime is much weaker than it looks.

She said: “I recommend that the US be fully prepared for the possible sudden disintegration of the CCP.

“Xi Jinping’s overly suspicious and narrow-minded personality has led to continuous purges inside the party, which have brought extreme dissatisfaction among the middle and high-level officials. Everyone feels unsafe.”

A starving China is a bad thing imo. Better that we sell the grain and keep our farmers profitable and able to hold onto their land.

The CCP controlled military will not let the CCP fall, as Tienanmen Square showed.

Those were uneducated mountain troops specifically chosen by Deng for their lack of knowledge of current events. They were heavily propagandized to believe all the students were terrorists.

So there really isn’t any accurate comparison to the current PLA, especially if Xi is seen to threaten disruption of the lucrative businesses the PLA controls. Perhaps his announced placement of a CCP member at the top of every business seen by the CCP as essential will tip the scale.

In the Mao days individual Chinese were a lot less exposed to the world and the society was horribly traumatized by, social chaos, revolution & WWII. I think individual Chinese now are much less taken in by “socialist” promises. I don’t think the guy who stood in front of the tank was a solitary thinker. That being said I think the Chinese are very nationalistic and would not take kindly to challenges that they view as belittling their culture or their national accomplishments. Xi will play the nationalism card whenever he senses he’s in trouble. It will work for awhile, how long I don’t know.

“Of course, the CCP has never shown much concern for its own people anyway.”
A difference is that now most of their people live in cities.
It’s a lot easier ignoring starving peasants than it is starving slum dwellers.

In some ways yes, and in many ways no.

What have most respectable polls in China showed about mainland Chinese attitudes regarding events in Hong Kong. Most mainland Chinese have NOT supported the Hong Kong protest movements.

The CCP has exploited the modern tools of technology to make their levers of control deeper and stronger, not weaker. The mainland Chinese may be more informed of the world, but I do not think they have become less humbled before the power of the CCP.

Where’s the “Oh yeah right” girl. We’ve been hearing about China’s collapse for a decade. I’m more worried about the coming U.S. collapse.

...........if marxist/socialists in China start shooting each other by the trainload my only thought would be how to get US marxist/socialist, i.e. Democrats, to do the same thing.

“Those were uneducated mountain troops specifically chosen by Deng for their lack of knowledge of current events.”

1. I find no source for the theme that they were “uneducated mountain troops” (and from where in China do you think most of its troops today come from???)

2. “They were heavily propagandized to believe all the students [protesters] were terrorists.” As is/would the entire mainland military today.

3. ........”if Xi is seen to threaten disruption of the lucrative businesses the PLA controls. Perhaps his announced placement of a CCP member at the top of every business seen by the CCP as essential will tip the scale.”

Doubtful. If it is a PLA Controlled business then likely there is already a CCP member at the top, so the reference is likely to be to businesses outside the PLA orbit, which means the PLA would likely support the change, not feel threatened by it. It is consolidation and centralization process - over a much more diversified economic sphere - that is increasing CCP control not threatening it.
