Pre-crime is illegal.

Actual crime is legal.

Welcome to bizarro-world.

Probably mistook red dot for laser. Idiots. News said he didn’t have an FOID but he didn’t need one because he’s not a resident. If it is an AR type then law is very unclear. Not illegal in illannoy but Cook County/Chicago have statutes. Never really enforced ...if not involved in crime ...and no penalty except possibly confiscation. This guy will most likely skate. Much ado about nothing. F Chicago.

Brown noted the employee's discovery was significant because hotels have not been cleaning rooms daily due to Covid-19 restrictions.

There is, supposedly, a deadly virus out there and their response is to NOT clean the rooms regularly? This is Dim logic.

The weapons were discovered by an employee of the W Chicago Lakeshore Hotel who went into Casteel's room to clean it, Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said Tuesday.

I hate hotels and avoid them like the plague. In this case it's seems one of their illegal alien house servants ratted this guy out. Reading this story is like reading something which occurred in Communist China or some other country controlled by punitive dictators.

2008, I drove to Chicago for a work seminar. Looking up the gun laws then, it stated that one must apply ahead for a FOID card to carry in the state of Illinois. On top of, dismantling the pistol and having it locked in the trunk. And Chicago proper? No way, strictly forbidden under any circumstance.

Of course that was then, things might have changed. But I would bet the card thingy still applies for those not a resident.

Not exactly. No FOID needed for mere possession by non residents if they are legal possessors in their home state. If by some odd chance of personal misfortune you are moving there you are required to get one. Transporting rules for non-res remain...unloaded in a case.

So did I before my tragic boating accident.

Probably not a good idea to announce your defense preparations publicly.

two felony counts of aggravated unlawful use of weapons...

Aggravated means armed. He was not anywhere near the weapons.

Unlawful use? How did he use the firearms?

Half ass lawyer can get the case dismissed. I would bet that he is someone the chicago gang government doesn’t like.

I agree with you but this person broke one of the cardinal rules of gun ownership. Never leave a weapon unsecured. He’s an idiot.

Illinois preemption law grandfathered in Chicago's preexisting laws, so ARs and laser sights are illegal in Chicago.

So? IIRC, there is a federal preemption law protects folks who are travelling with firearm from unconstitutional restrictions.

Meanwhile, in Iowa, a sane state, these two guns would be no problem at all. Hint: DON’T EVER TRAVEL TO ILLINOIS if you don’t want to be forcibly disarmed.

That law only applies when you are traveling from a place where the firearms are legal, to a place where the firearms are legal. He traveled to a place where the firearms were not legal, and was not stopped in a vehicle.

One of many ways to criminalize the safe use of guns. Another way, is what happens when you forget that you have a gun in your bags and you go to the airport. You are guilty, and there is no recourse.

All this is done to harass the non-violent people while letting true violent criminals keep their guns.

Rooms are not cleaned daily if you are in the room for multiple days. But they will clean the room if requested. They also clean the room between guests. Does that make sense to you now?
