Law enforcement across Louisiana are holding a news conference Thursday urging the Louisiana legislature not to vote to override a concealed carry bill that Gov. John Bel Edwards vetoed during the regular session.
The news conference will be held in Baton Rouge with multiple law enforcement officers in attendance. Advertisement
A proposal to allow Louisiana residents to carry concealed weapons without a permit was rejected by Edwards, as anticipated.
Law enforcement officials say vetoing the bill is dangerous, as it would eliminate permits needed.
"The LEOs will discuss how the override of the veto would lead to more dangerous crimes throughout communities," a news release issued on behalf of the Louisiana Law Enforcement Coalition. said. "A recent survey found that 80 percent of the people of Louisiana support requiring a permit for concealed carry weapons."
Ballots determining whether a veto session will be held are due July 15. If neither chamber sees a majority of its members turn in the paperwork to cancel the gathering, the session will begin July 20 and could run through July 24.
The news conference with law enforcement will begin at 1 p.m.

Their side.
As usual.

And these are the folks that swore to uphold the constitution? Sad.
But hey, we gotta back the blue!
If they don’t let law abiding people conceal carry then criminals will give up their concealed weapons for sure!
Wonder who makes up the Louisiana Law Enforcement Coalition. Basically, it’s just a union.
Louisiana Law Enforcement Coalition......LLEA is a multi-ethnic police employee organization whose primary objective is to ensure its membership fair and equitable treatment by their respective Law Enforcement Agencies.
First, what does ethnicity have to do with being treated fairly?
Second, the executive board is all WHITE.
Seems to me that they’re just a bunch of cops that don’t like the idea of folks having guns. But, that’s just me.
These are police chiefs and sheriffs. The chiefs are beholding to the city council or manager and the sheriffs are beholding to the county supervisors.
Consistently, they do NOT REPRESENT THE BELIEFS OF THE RANK AND FILE, with few exceptions.
“Interesting on whose side they are on.”
Expected.

LEO is generally on the side of the enemy.
Is it not the legislature’s job to do the will of their constituents?
Cops are not enforcing laws now, and are very worried CCW carriers will start doing it for them.
Which gets very messy, very fast.
Cops work for the state. Stop pretending they are all heroes. Some are, some aren’t, most just want the job with benefits.
So tired of hearing this garbage. If the "rank & file" are so principled, they would be walking off the job en mass when their bosses, as you point out, pull this horse crap. They don't, and are part of the problem.
"All that is required for evil to prosper is for good men to do nothing"
I agree. Fully paid medical bennies and an inflation indexed pension.
Don’t know who these cops are, but they’re wrong.
2A is a good thing.
Here’s another story that’s pertinent.
We spoke with Opelousas Police Chief Martin Mclendon and St. Landry Sheriff Bobby Guidroz, who say they were not aware of Thursday’s news conference. Chief Mclendon outright supports the governor’s veto, saying conceal carry without a permit would be a danger for the community.
Sheriff Guidroz says the permitting process doesn’t solve major problems when it comes to gun violence.
Ignoring the truth does not make it go away. I am sure your political and religious views always coincided with whomever you may have worked for in the past.
Could just as easily be fake news to try and push a narrative.
When they didn't, and it was becoming an issue, I packed up and went elsewhere.
Isn't it. Yet Conservatives in huge numbers are convinced the police are on their side. They're NOT.
Conservatives need to understand one thing. The police are just another dept of government and generally attracts the same kind of people. They want power for themselves and not for you. They want rules for you that don't apply to them. Wake up!
Individual officers can be conservative. Police departments are not.
