I was stationed at NAS Alameda in 69’ and went to Oakland to see a movie. I was standing out front when three Hell’s Angels pulled up and said ‘you need to leave now, it’s not safe for you here’. They waited with me till the bus came.
In terms of retrieving gear, it probably costs about as much or more to load a used, tired Humvee onto a transport plane (which in no small way would be vulnerable to shoot-down during the loading) as to buy a new one. Nothing that a $15 thermite charge atop the engine wouldn't fix in about 45 seconds. Or shoot the block w/a .50 BMG.
