It is absolutely criminal that weapons and equipment were left to fall in the hands of our enemies.

I'd like to know what the Generals think is going to happen and why they believe this is the correct course.

I'd like to know what the Commander-In-Chief thought would happen.

I don't hear the chorus of elected GOP Congressmen and 2022 candidates screaming that this will be Day one stuff. In fact, I don't hear a soul calling for this. Not to mention working with Hunter and the foreign enemies for personal gain. It's like Adam Carolla said on Tucker (taped) last night, it's like having a drunk pilot and not saying a thing. We know how that scenario ends.

B.S. - the weapons, ammunition, and equipment were left in the hands of the South Vietnamese army - the ARVN - the enemy only got their hands on them after the ARVN surrendered.

Well there you go. The weapons, ammo and equipment were left in the hands of the Afghan army and the enemy only got their hands on them after they surrendered. That makes it alright because nobody had any idea they would surrender so quickly.

Did you even bother to read the article?

No...the Taliban doesn’t pose the kind of threat to the world the Nazis did.

The United States however, could easily occupy that role if it stopped caring how the rest of the world thought about it and just used brute force.

Not sure however ‘be more like the Nazis’ is a winning strategy for the United States...do you?

You totally misunderstood my intention, to show that our enemies simply have the Greater Will right now than we do. America is asleep.

We’re too worried about public opinion and what the rest of the world thinks of us, to properly fight evil.

Is that Kamala in the background getting warmed up. This sh*t can’t last forever with Biden reading his comments, and not very impressively at that.

Sure - did you, History Major?

Did you miss the part where it read:

Following the takeover of a former

Afghan National Army base

the Taliban have come into the hands of thousands of unused weapons and vehicles intended for US and Afghan troops.

Sounds familiar and shocking, doesn't it? I may not be a history major but I didn't have to be Nostradamus either to figure out what was going to happen as soon as US troops left. In fact they even had past experience to go by.

I understand your intentions just fine...and you inadvertently make a valid point.

The 'endless war' propaganda you neocons spout is a lot like Nazi propaganda.

Neocon? I want us out of Afghanistan. I’m just saying that the reason the Taliban is prevailing there is because they do have the stronger will. Nobody is willing to do what it takes to wipe them out. Actually, maybe the Chinese will, because they don’t give a rat’s ass what the rest of the world thinks of them.

I even suggested helping the Mujhahadeen get rid of the Soviets in retrospect was a bad idea. It got us one Bin Laden.

“That probably won’t work out for them in Afghanistan”

No it won’t.
Even though they share a 47 mile long border, Afghanistan is a long way from Beijing and what PLA commander is going to want to take individual initiative to deal with the problems on the ground? Even with modern communications technologies a theater commander is required to take personal initiative from time to time. Something frowned on by the Party leaders.

China is also aware of the reputation of Afghanistan as the place empires go to die.
I really hope China jumps into the meat grinder named Afghanistan.

The very first thing you did was stretch this article to include my war, Vietnam, in your little slanted spiel. It was two years after the last US troops left Vietnam that the NVA (not the Vietcong - the VC as a fighting force evaporated at Tet '68) got their hands on their US-provided materiel.

The stuff we left the Afhans predictably was carried off by the Taliban - should have either taken it with us or blown it in place.

If that was the point you were trying to make, fine - but leave our war out of your history-bending pronouncements

Silly me, but there might be some intelligence value associated with those weapons and vehicles. At some point, there will be a sizable need for spare parts. If our intelligence officers are smart, they'll be on the lookout for attempts to obtain those parts.

Nah, I'm giving Biden's military wayyyy too much credit, aren't I?

My last Battalion Commander in Germany demanded intelligence and imagination from his officers. We worked so well together, I worked for him again when we both landed back at Fort Bliss.

It was from that directive that I put together an outlandish resupply strategy for our battalion level ARTEP ( I was the S-4, Battalion Supply Officer). It included the coordinates of local bakeries, grocery stores, and restaurants, should our resupply be cut off.

While I was giving my initial briefing, my boss was chuckling as the Chief Evaluator looked angry. After it was over, he came over to me, "where did you get all that crap?" I explained to him that was the Colonel's directive, and I knew each proprietor, due to my being in the battalion 4 years. Group S-4 staff thought it was great, as I took them out for a meal at a few of these places while the evaluation was occurring.

Couldn't do that today, either.

“In contrast, the Taliban are more motivated than their Arabic counterparts, and the least likely to bend the knee to Western power.”

Well, with very little help they outlasted the Russians and now the US. They know how to play the game now. They have all the moves memorized and know how/when to play and how/when to hide. So easy, even a caveman could do it.

“The only Arabic group comparable to the Taliban is ISIS, and it will be interesting to see how that power struggle plays out.”

Which goes to show how far down the ladder Afghanistan really is. Not one but two barbarous groups roaming the countryside. Gee whiz, who to root for? Such a...quagmire.

I think the Taliban has the local connections but ISIS is much more brutal. It will get real interesting when ISIS decides to BBQ a few Taliban prisoners. Will the Taliban return the favor with an equally brutal counterstrike? Only time will tell.

But that all depends on the Chinese.
China has plans for Afghanistan. If China comes in too strong, as they usually do, the two islamic factions will probably keep the peace long enough to deal with the Chinese.
Russia entered Afghanistan in 1979 to help out the communist government there. They turned tail and left in 1989 with nothing to show for it but graves and shredded equipment.
We spent twenty years there with the same outcome.

I really hope China jumps into Afghanistan with both feet. The CCP doesn’t know when to back off and they sure can’t stand the loss of face required by losing.
Yeah Xi! Grab that sleeping tiger by the tail!

I imagine the Taliban will lose most of it to attrition, cannibalizing parts as things fail.
