I did a quick search to find out what might be in that God forsaken corner of the world. I figured nothing but it seems the Afghanis are sitting on some pretty valuable resources such as copper, iron, sulfur, bauxite, lithium, and rare-earth elements.
All found and proven by the USGS since 2005.

The US doesn’t destroy this equipment because it is supposed to be used by the Afghan army. But they just run and hide and leave it all to be taken.
Correct, but the problem has always been how do you get those minerals out of Afghanistan and put them to use.
I don’t think you can rely on native Afghanis to work the mines for Chinese companies, China will move in hundreds if not thousands of people...
The inevitable clash of cultures will happen, the Taliban, Al Qaeda, and other terrorist groups will eventually look at the Chinese as an occupying force, just Russia and the USA and start to fight back.
China will be ruthless, but so were the Russians, the IEDs will start going off, the suicide bombers will start setting themselves off, ambushes will start, etc....
I say let China have Afghanistan, let them get bogged down in a no win situation that will suck up a lot of their resources....
And just like when we funded the Mujahedeen in the 80s against Russia, we will fund the Taliban, we have already given them millions and millions of dollars of military hardware.....that’s just a down payment IMO...

I’m not too worried as Humvees and other equipment require high maintenance and specialized replacement parts.
Now if they can procure the parts and mechanics through some provided source, that’s another matter.
Compounding surrender with retreat, and arming an anarchistic tribal bandit faction. What a topsy-turvy world this has become in a mere six months.
The Mexican drug cartels have an Asian counterpart. Organized on much the same lines.
The key to Afghanistan has always been Pakistan. The northern tribal region has been where the Taliban left their families, and where they went to rest.
The Paks were always playing a double game, and stabbing us in the back. The Chinese will speak more bluntly to the Pak leadership.
Donald Rumsfeld and Afghanistan both gone in the same week. ‘Nuff said.
I’m sure they will and as soon as the Pakistanis crack down on that region then the Pakistani Government will be retaliated against....
There is a reason why no one for centuries has been able to tame that area, China won’t be able to do it, unless they are willing to kill millions which they might be, but I say let them try....
This from the same government itching to take guns AWAY from law-abiding US citizens.

True; the Ayatollah ended up with modern US jets that couldn’t fly because they had no parts or people to maintain them. Just the same, it is disgraceful; those that say we just go to war for business are vindicated when we’re even manufacturing materiel for the enemy...

You outlined a pretty accurate scenario. If the Afghanis were going to raise themselves up they would have done it by now. I think Afghanistan is the bottom rung of the Arabic ladder. The lowest and least motivated of all.
Decades of war haven’t helped but we gave them years of semi-peaceful existence and they’re throwing it away.
It would be nice to see China so bogged down in Afghanistan that they have to put their invasion of Taiwan on hold indefinitely. :&)

This is all done deliberately to send Afghanistan into chaos. It’ll be their “Arab Spring,” guaranteed to annihilate the little sovereignty they had left forever.
So this was done purposefully.
China, unlike the US, will exterminate the Taliban like ants.
Inside of China we’ve already seen how they handle their Muslim problem, round’em up into slave labor camps.
That probably won’t work out for them in Afghanistan
