NPR Celebrates Independence Day by Portraying Declaration of Independence as Racist

Taxpayer-funded National Public Radio (NPR) reluctantly repeated its tradition of staff reading the Declaration of Independence, this year framing its report to point out the “flaws” and racist elements of one of the most cherished U.S. documents.

The left-wing media outlet said it started the tradition as “a way of marking Independence Day”:

NPR included remarks from author David Treuer, who is Ojibwe from Leech Lake Reservation.

“But a deeper look at history also shows that one of the reasons why the colonists wanted to rise up against the British — and wage the Revolutionary War — was over the question of who would try to colonize Native lands west of the colonies,” Treuer told Morning Edition.

It boiled down to power and money, Treuer argued.

“The crown wanted that money for themselves,” he said. “The colonists, understandably, would have preferred to have it for themselves. So the whole revolution was in large part fought over who got to take our stuff.”

“On one hand we are keenly aware of the ways in which this country has attempted to both take our homelands and to eradicate us,” Treuer said. “And yet a huge number of Native people are deeply patriotic. Native American people have fought in every war America has fought up until today.

“We remain committed to forcing this country to live up to its own stated ideals.” he said.

As for NPR, which regularly maligns the United States in its reporting, concluded by criticized the founding document and laid out it is foundation not for the most free and prosperous country in the world but “for what America could be.”

“The Declaration is a document with flaws and deeply ingrained hypocrisies,” NPR concluded.

Trust me, chief.

You wouldn’t have liked the crown “taking your stuff”.

Ask India. Hell, ask anyone in the world.

Atrocities were committed against native Americans, yes. But many of those in response to anger after trading beads for land and stuff.

Again, what happened in America tti it’s natives was genocide... but every conflict is fought with 3 bladed swords.

Both Houses of Congress were R in Trump’s first two years of office. Yet there was no attempt to defund the execrable NPR and PBS; this bunch was funded in the 1960s with taxpayer money when there were no alternatives to the three broadcast networks. There are now 1000 or so cable stations, the internet, etc. and we have these lowlife leftwing clowns on the taxpayer payroll. Disgusting.

This and two representatives openly declaring racist holiday. Within five posts of eachother on the FR comments page. How many more not reported on, the entire democrat party? Maybe they should make a move to abolish July 4th, their popularity might soar.

This is the Indian version of the 1619 project. Treuer should be made to explain why Indians held slaves.

Ah, the Indians. For whatever reason they tended to pick the ‘wrong’ side in the white man’s wars. French & Indian, most favored the French, who lost. American Revolution, most favored the English, who lost. War of 1812 again the English, who didn’t win. Civil War, tribes tended to favor the South.

I’m not saying their fate would have been awfully different had they picked the winning side but picking the losing side didn’t help.

But it really came down to economics. Stone Age hunter-gatherers up against iron age agriculturists. Forty acres of land could feed and support how many colonists vs Indians. It is why we came to outnumber them so quickly. They were doomed the moment Columbus sighted land. And if it wasn’t Columbus it would have been Cabral only 8 years later when he bumped into Brazil.

NPR has long since run its course. It’s a biased, hate America, but taxpayer funded parasite that deserves to be defunded. I’ve said this for years. I was saying this back when Bush the Elder was President. The GOP has held power various times since then and hasn’t ever lifted a finger to defund NPR.

Why do we pay for our dispossession of our own nation?

As for NPR, which regularly maligns the United States in its reporting...

This is all part of the elitist mindset. These people signal their superiority by criticizing others. They’re “above” the common herd. Ingratitude is their coin.

Makes perfect sense for people who want this country eliminated and replaced with a socialist dictatorship in which the descendants of the founders and anyone whose skin reflectance is similar are maintained as working slaves.

Too late. Already been done. Spanish in the SW, French in the Mississippi River area to Canada, Spanish is Florida, French in Canada, Russians in the far NW.

Britain had a toe hold on the East till they defeated the French and captured Canada.
