The WaPo is the poster child for hypocrisy. If hypocrisy was a virtue, liberals would be saints.

So the people that came through that way would have been better off not coming? Don’t think so.

Try looking for Lady Liberty at an exhibition of Chicano graphic art at the Smithsonian American Art Museum,
I can certainly see why ‘chicano graphic artists’ may not have a fond memory of the Statue of Liberty...we didn’t have copies of it when their ancestors crossed the border from Mexico. But that might beg the question, why should we care what chicano artists use?

It was a gift from France placed in a free country which gives Philip the latitude to write garbage like this.

Make no mistake. It's not this one guy. This is ruling class orthodoxy he's spouting.
It really is total war.

Those who hate the US are glad they live here. It is the way their ancestors got here is their problem.
Should I be upset that my ancestors did not come here (1790) in luxury on the QE2?
That is past. Get over it.

at an exhibition of Chicano graphic art at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, for example, where familiar images — flags, maps, military recruiting posters — are repurposed. You will find the statue almost or entirely absent. Maybe that’s because, compared with other icons of national identity, it is ambiguous and ambivalent. As familiar to some Americans as the flag, the statue is just as meaningless or foreign to others, a sign without significance, or worse, a symbol of hypocrisy or unfulfilled promises.
Maybe because The Statue of Liberty is not the first thing they see when they wade across The Rio Grande.

Maybe the ignorant and stupid Philip Kennicott should learn what the statue is about and it ain’t immigration.
