The rush to take Cosby began when comedian Hannibal Buress did a screed in his act about how ticked off he was that Cosby lectured black people on their behavior when he "raped women". That went viral and thats when all the women came forward.

Not that Burress explicitly said he was putting that out there because he didn't like Cosby lecturing black people. So yeah, Cosby's position on social issues is what enraged the left to take him down.
