Byron Brown: People are afraid of India Walton's socialist policies

STEVE BROWN: Also on Monday, on four occasions you described India Walton as a radical socialist. You also mentioned the word "fear" or "fearful" four times. Are you trying to make people afraid of her?

BYRON BROWN: I think people themselves are afraid of her. They have heard her positions. She’s talked about cutting the police department defunding the police department at a time when crime is going up in communities all across the country including here. What I have done is modernize the police department, professionalize the police department, consistently worked to make the police department and every department in the City of Buffalo better more efficient and stronger. Her brand of socialism is that, "I'm going to raise your taxes before even looking or understanding the city budget."

STEVE BROWN: It’s not like the city couldn’t use the money. Raising taxes brings in more money.

BYRON BROWN: It does.

STEVE BROWN: You have chosen often not to do so. Do you regret that?

BRYON BROWN: I do not regret that because we have high poverty in this community, a lot of people that rent in this community, a lot of families struggling to make end meet. By lowering taxes on homeowners and business owners, homeowners were able to invest in their properties. Young families were able to buy homes in the city of Buffalo and maintain them. Businesses were able to grow and be attracted to the city of Buffalo and create jobs for our community. And now as we come out of a pandemic, I don’t think it’s the time to raise taxes.

Sad... never did like the ‘guy who looks good in a suit’. But now, you gotta root for him.

This woman will destroy our city - just the others of her ‘ilk’.

jimjohn - OUT.

India Walton sounds like a real disaster. Like NY City, a radical fringe can get out 10% of the Democrat vote for a primary, and thus make a freak the mayor of the whole city.

Soon we will have police as effective as those in the 1993 movie “Demolition Man”.

What is it with Black Democrat politicians in the Rochester/Buffalo and possibly Ithaca areas being Marxist, anti-police nutcases?

Aren’t there any honest, sane black politicians up there who can get elected to “protect the people”, not get them killed?

I remember when these cities were economically viable, had low crime rates, and were nice to visit. Not any more and that is the shame of what the Dems are doing to our country.

Mayor Brown sounds like a black Democrat leader who cares about his city and its people. If he is this clear-headed, I hope he wins the primary.

Buffalo cannot afford another Lori Lightfoot, Muriel Bowser, Comrade DeBlasio, and nutcase AOC type psycho.

I know the mayor personally and while we don't always agree politically, I do no that he is a man of great integrity. During his time as mayor, he's been very measured, calm, and even handed in all that he's done. I've witnessed him come in on heated arguments and with in minutes, have the parties settled down and actually listening & talking to each other civilly. One thing I've always liked and respected him for, he will actually listen, and even in disagreement, he doesn't argue back with disregard or contempt of your position.

Brown is an old-style NY/Northeast Democrat machine politician. And Buffalo is a typical, democrat-machine type city. The Republicans won't even bother to run a candidate for mayor, that's how fixed it is. But in the present era, that makes Brown a moderate. I believe he felt so comfortable and secure (and lazy), he didn't bother to campaign among the Buffalo Democrats. He refused to debate Walton. Just like NY City, it only took a small minority of radical leftists to come out in the primary and push this crazy socialist over the top.
