Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis never asked former President Donald Trump to postpone a rally in Sarasota scheduled for Saturday, his office told the Daily Caller News Foundation Wednesday.
“Governor DeSantis is focusing on his duties as Governor and the tragedy in Surfside, and has never suggested or requested that events planned in different parts of Florida — from the Stanley Cup finals to President Trump’s rally — should be canceled,” DeSantis’ office said in the statement to the DCNF.
“He wants all Floridians to enjoy the holiday weekend and celebrate Independence Day however they choose, while keeping the Surfside families and first responders in their prayers,” the statement said.
An article from the Washington Examiner had quoted anonymous sources saying DeSantis’ office “made a direct plea” to Trump’s team to postpone the rally in light of the ongoing search-and-rescue mission at the site of the collapsed Surfside condo building.
“The governor is completely focused on this whole disaster in Surfside, but Florida’s a big state. There’s a lot going on. He does not find it wrong or disrespectful or anything like that to be doing a rally,” a person close to DeSantis’ office told the DCNF.

The original story was unsourced rumor and innuendo, designed to drive a wedge between supporters of Trump and Desantis, who are largely the same people.

Honestly- even though Florida is a big state, I’d like to see Trump put off the rally for a week or so. This is a pretty awful thing here and kthe rally could wait.
I don’t know if there’s disagreement behind closed doors but DeSantis will not be at the rally.
A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes.

DeSantis has a real job. Smart of him to keep focused on priorities.
I often wonder how many of those geniuses are actually progressive socialist democrats that come here and just try to sow hate and discontent.

Disney World is going to put on a giant amazing incredible fireworks display. Should they postpone that? Orlando is a hell of a lot closer to Miami than Sarasota. I don’t see anyone calling for Disney World to shut down.
when I read the original story about the “feud” I could smell the stink of the Media-Dem Party all over it.
I’d like to see him keep it and make a statement at the beginning. The event was scheduled for Independence Day weekend. Can’t put off the Independence day for a week.
