Biden airstrikes heat up debate over war powers

President Biden’s airstrikes over the weekend against Iranian-backed militias in Iraq and Syria have added fuel to a simmering debate in Congress over presidential war powers.

Top Democrats have backed Biden’s move as a proportionate and necessary response to escalating drone strikes from the militias against U.S. interests in Iraq.

But the strikes — the second time Biden has hit the militias — came as Democrats were already working to claw back presidential war powers.

And even as several Democrats said they trust Biden’s judgment, they also pushed the White House for further explanation for the latest strikes, with some expressing concerns about an escalating tit for tat between the United States and the militias that would demand Biden come to Congress for approval to launch military action.

“There is no doubt that President Biden possesses the ability to defend our forces abroad, and I continue to trust inherently the national security instincts of this White House,” Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) said in a statement.

“My concern is that the pace of activity directed at U.S. forces and the repeated retaliatory strikes against Iranian proxy forces are starting to look like what would qualify as a pattern of hostilities under the War Powers Act,” Murphy added. “Both the Constitution and the War Powers Act require the president to come to Congress for a war declaration under these circumstances.”

On Sunday evening, the Pentagon announced it had carried out two strikes in Syria and one in Iraq against facilities it said were being used by a pair of Iranian-backed militias launching drone attacks against U.S. personnel and facilities in Iraq.

Truly timely. I believe they were talking about getting rid of the “Iraq” powers only last week.

Apparently the Democrats dislike our troops defending themselves.

Top Democrats have backed Biden’s move as a proportionate and necessary

Enough of the $hit. 1.) The War Powers Act should be repealed. 2.) When military action is necessary, it is the constitutional requirement to for Congress to declare war. 3.) Enough of this proportional crap. We should rarely use military power, but when we do it needs to gawd-awful, brutal, overwhelming, and disproportionate. Anyone seeing the results will think twice about going against our interests. It also provides pause to ourselves to focus on whether it is necessary use military force in the first place.

With all that said, Xiden doesn't have the mental faculties to tie his shoes, let alone order military action.

This is the shiny object? Or leading up to the shiny object someone wants everyone to start focusing on?

If we had a sane, conservative government, the war powers possessed by the president would allow him to negotiate settlements easily. Without. Ever. Using. Force. The problem is, the Forever War is good for business. I’m not anti business. But having sat in board meetings and been in the military industrial complex my entire 33 year career, I know how taking home a huge bonus makes men do things they would not do if they didn’t personally profit.

And, the problem with powers like these, is, they will eventually fall into the hands of a senile pedophile. (Or, possibly an aging rock star. Not sure which is worse.)

This demonstrates that there no longer exists a consensus on American foreign policy even within the Biden cabal. There are people in Biden’s leftist cabal who are aghast that their fighting Islamic allies are being bombed by the Biden controlled American military. Then there are those people who figure you can’t go wrong dropping bombs on congregating Islamic terrorists. In any event Biden has no idea what he has ordered or why. Right now the pro Islamic leftists among Biden are furious that Biden was influenced and controlled by someone clearly not on their team. Suspect there is a fair amount of backstabbing happening right now within the cabal.

added fuel to a simmering debate in Congress

**************

The more they debate the less they do.

The congress often confuses debate with action, in much the same way they confuse spending money with constructive action.
