This morning was the first time ever that I looked up a celebrity net worth and discover a negative number. She is bankrupt at -$10.2 million and needs that royalties safety net.
They play your music on the radio. If you are popular you sell lots of records and people want you for concerts. That’s how it always worked. If your music is old and/or unpopular in later life, you should have saved the money you made when you were popular.
Recording artists get robbed.
L.a. is a great big freeway.

In a week, maybe two, they’ll make you a star

Are parking cars and pumping gas

I may be on my own here, but I think that’s a little greedy of her. Playing her music on the radio is basically free advertising.
Blame Sony and others.
The Turtles (Flo and Eddie) had a lawsuit going because rates to artists of the 1960s were far less that for more contemporary acts and Sony “settled” with Big Media for a poorer settlement and blew the pre-existing “Turtles” case out of the water. IIRC it gave Big Media another 5 years of the different rates.

So would the recording artists include studio musicians? Often, the named artist was not actually the recording artist.
Imagine what the wrecking crew would have made if they got paid per play.
Johnny Carson wrote words for the Tonight Show theme, and got paid for every play, even though they did not use the words....
Sing one time, get paid one time.
So artists have never been paid royalties other than the composers and writers. Kind of late as most of those that could have benefited are retired or dead and radio is not what it was.

Dionne Warwick supports OJ Simpson.
Writing songs and owning what you write has always been the road to riches. That is, if your tunes hit it big. Dionne Warwick knew this and knows this. She was very talented but should have written more or any? She always sang what others wrote.
As it is she made beaucoup performing and recording. She still gets residuals from recording, but nothing compared to what her song writers are getting. Or the estates of the song writers, such as Hal David (died age 91)
Robbie Robertson of The Band snagged most of their song writing credits. Even though these tunes were *really* written with the other members helping along. This is why RR is wealthy today, while the other Band members are not, or died without much money.
