This is so dumb - all of Europe will have waves of Delta Airlines virus or whatever the hell they want to call it by next month. They’ve all largely reopened and still have lower overall vax rates than the UK.

I think you hit the issue and didn’t realize it. Their vax rate is LOWER than that of the UK. So it is already understood the vax can protect you from the severe effects of the virus, you can transmit it. Merkel’s unvaccinated are at serious risk.
