Juneteenth, the celebration of freedom that started in Texas, is now being celebrated across the nation.
Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas) was instrumental in pushing the holiday from the Lone Star State all the way to the President’s desk.
“It’s a good day,” said Sen. Cornyn on Friday.

So glad I’ll never vote Republican again
!
The black community with 75% fatherless birth rates has just stolen fathers day. And they dared name it Juneteenth Independence Day two weeks before July 4th.
Next year it actually falls ON Fathers Day.
It’s a bad day when a spoiled privileged victim group gets yet another day for promoting White Guilt.
Besides Rep. Jackson in West TX, who are the other 13 who voted against this?
good day for you. bad day for America.
As I understand it, there are roughly 800k government employees.....that adds up to millions if not tens or hundreds of million dollars.
“that adds up to millions if not tens or hundreds of million dollars.”
and that is for one year. You won’t ever be able to eliminate another paid holiday to offset because that would be racist and disrespectful of Juneteenth.
No idea. You’d have to know the bill number, then look it up.
Juneteenth is a nice holiday. It celebrates the end of slavery... and that’s a Republican victory. Many of us have families who fought in the civil war - many of us have families that fought for civil rights BEFORE democrats saw the winds changing and ran to the front of the parade.
So this is OUR holiday too...
Keep telling yourself that. It’s nothing more than a club to be used by the left to peddle white guilt, the notion America is always bad, and advance critical race theory.
Why didn’t Cornyn or Sheila Jackson-Lee urge Texas to make a STATE recognized holiday before taking it to the federal level?
It doesn’t make sense/mean anything beyond Texas.
Too many modern interpretations of the holiday are false.
It never was to recognize the end of all slavery in the America. More Northern states than Texas held their slaves until December 1865 and Indians held onto slaves much longer than that.
Nurses dancing on tiktok has been a “thing” since at least 2020.
the holiday, Juneteenth, is a day of celebrations when the Republican’s defeated the Democrats and set Black people free.
Then why add “National Independence Day” to the name of the holiday? Only one reason: to subvert the ONLY “Independence Day” holiday, July 4. Definialy ANTI-Republican Party, and meant to do one thing: Destroy the United States.
No, I think Juneteenth is great! It is what the Republican party was FOUNDED upon YEARS AGO, Spearheaded by Lincoln and a Union General that threw out the Democrat slaveholders and got rid of slavery in our country. Hooray! (We’ve got to stop allowing the news media to COLOR the best ideas and use them against us). This new holiday celebrates the END OF SLAVERY, it celebrates the FOUNDING of the REPUBLICAN party ... YEARS AGO!!! So Slavery is over and the Republicans are credited. Done! Celebrate is passing!
So when is Cornhole going to sponsor holidays for the REST of the "downtrodden" [/sarc] minorities?
Cornholio is an embarrassment to true Texans.
HISTORY: Not all slaves were freed by the Emancipation Proclamation, nor via Juneteenth. Only the slaves of the REBEL states were freed then. Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation was a wartime effort to split and weaken the South; he did NOT free any slaves in the Northern states. Slaves in the non-rebelling border states had to wait for the 13th Amendment, effective December 18, 1865.
