Bible in a Year:
If God will be with me and watch over me . . . then the Lord will be my God.
Aubrey bought a fleece-lined coat for her aging father, but he died before he could wear it. So she tucked a note of encouragement with a $20 bill into the pocket and donated the jacket to charity.
Ninety miles away, unable to endure his family’s dysfunction any longer, nineteen-year-old Kelly left his house without grabbing a coat. He knew of only one place to turn—the home of his grandmother who prayed for him. Hours later he stepped off a bus and into his grandma’s arms. Shielding him from the winter wind, she said, “We’ve got to get you a coat!” At the mission store, Kelly tried on a coat he liked. Slipping his hands into the pockets he found an envelope—with a $20 bill and Aubrey’s note.
Jacob fled his dysfunctional family in fear for his life (Genesis 27:41–45). When he stopped for the night, God revealed Himself to Jacob in a dream. “I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go,” God told him (28:15). Jacob vowed, “If God will . . . give me food to eat and clothes to wear . . . , then the Lord will be my God” (vv. 20–21).
Jacob made a rudimentary altar and named the spot “God’s house” (v. 22). Kelly takes Aubrey’s note and that $20 wherever he goes. Each serves as a reminder that no matter where we run, God is there.
Reflect & Pray
When you’ve had to “run,” whether literally or metaphorically, where did you go and to whom did you turn? How can you remind yourself of God’s presence in your life?
Father, You’re the One I can always run to. Help me turn to You first.

Greetings to all at the Canteen!
To all our military men and women, past and present,
Good evening, Mayor, and thank you for today’s sustenance for body and soul.
Hope you are rested after your big day, and Monday has gone as planned.
Good evening, Pro...sunshine sounds good. It’s almost 7p and the sun is just now peeking out.
Good evening, radu...has your ugly weather arrived?
No sun all day, and now it’s playing peek-a-boo.
Howdy, luvie.
Indeed, Fissure 8 - Big Daddy - would be a must-see. And a tour with Scott.
Did you get the cooler day the weatherman promised?
It was ugly here but cooled off late in the afternoon when rain came through. Still steamy outside but that will change when the “cold” front comes through in a couple of hours.
It got up to 91 and then the wind turned to the north and now it's 72!! I would go sit outside but the wind is still blowing too hard to be comfy just sitting in. And then all those pine needles from that humongous dying tree next door. Ugh.
I hope you get to enjoy your "cold" front! At least we weren't steamy...or at least not too much...with our heat.
It sure would be a blast. He knows some neat, beautiful places to show off. Not really hard to do since HI is so beautiful any way.
I imagine your 72 feels a lot better than our 72 because ours is steamy. The air sticks to you. The air will be a lot drier behind the front and tomorrow’s only supposed to be in the upper 70s for the high.
We could visit his lava lot and maybe hike as close to fissure 8 as is possible to get. I’d also want to see the new black sand beaches.
It felt wonderful. I might go back out in a bit to see if the wind has died down. I want to feel NATURAL coolness and breathe it. Not artificial AC air. LOL! :Hope you can spend some time outside in your cool weather when it gets there.
...and then Wed. and Thurs. it’s back to 100. Can’t catch a break but for tiny bits of time. :)
I know he does tours around his lava lot but I don’t think he’s allowed to take anyone closer to Big Daddy than that. It would still be fun to see it in person after all the months we watched the eruption.
I hope the wind died down enough you were able to sit outside for a bit and enjoy the fresh air.
It’s still a bit clammy here but there’s a nice little breeze blowing that makes it feel fairly decent. The rain with the front’s getting close.
We have nothing but 80s for the next 10 days except tomorrow. A couple of high 80s but mainly low to mid 80s. Not too bad. Nothing like your 100s. I feel for ya.
Those were crazy times.
I did go out. It was very pleasant. I petted the kitties who seemed to have more energy in the cool air. Then I came back in. You’re so lucky to have all those 80s days. Enjoy them! I hope you get a nice bit of rain, too.
How's everyone doing this morning?
Crazy times indeed. And fascinating to watch.
Glad you were able to sit outside for a while and enjoy the fresh air. The kitties probably enjoyed having company and some lovin’.
Some of those 80s will feel pretty decent but others are going to be steamy hot. Still better than 100!
The front just came through a few minutes ago with a heavy shower in the middle of lighter rain. We went from 72 to currently 66 in a flash. There’s still a little line of light rain coming and then we’re in the dry for a couple of days.
Man! That rain sounds so nice. I think you need to share it with Kathy and me. LOL!
Guess I’d better go. The last show I was watching just ended and I looked at the clock. Kinda late. :) See ya tomorrow night!
