Frank McCourt, the billionaire real estate mogul and former owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, is pouring $100 million into an attempt to rebuild the foundations of social media.
The effort, which he has loftily named Project Liberty, centers on the construction of a publicly accessible database of people’s social connections, allowing users to move records of their relationships between social media services instead of being locked into a few dominant apps.

Zuk spends this much on gay hookers every year.
Do you have to buy your way into the blockchain?
Let’s be Frank. HOORAY Frank! skidMark Zuckerberg is a thought burner.

That’s brilliant.
Go Frank.
McCourt said. “We live under constant surveillance

We also live in a sea of lies. We are bombarded with them everyday by every institution in society.
The biggest game in town is Control The People.
This is great. I’m glad a billionaire is stepping up to support liberty.
Good for him!! PRAY FOR HIM!!
More people get on board with a competitive alternative to Facebook and big tech media this would be greatly appreciated.
Financial security for alternatives is a big key.
Amen!
His effort is very much needed and I applaud him for it but the relentlessly expanding power of government power is an ever bigger threat to our liberties. We must find a way to shrink Fedzilla.
Unfortunately both parties have no intention of ever doing this.
“the construction of a publicly accessible database of people’s social connections.”

How is this liberty?

I’m glad he is stepping up to do this but he won’t get much political support for it. The worthless Republicans should get behind him but they are corrupt and unlikely to back him.
“McCourt also believes that recent history has underscored the disfunction of the current system, punctuated by the misinformation-fueled riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. What do social media users really have to lose?”

Another clue, this has nothing to do with liberty.
Sounds like forward progress?

Financial security for alternatives is a big key.>>>>It sounds more like an open platform not really competition. It will take the ownership of your facebook stuff back from zuk to you. so you can transport it to many or several platforms. It is a clever idea.
I think the idea is that while someone’s opinions cannot be CENSORED, because they are permanently embedded into a blockchain....but then people have to live with them, because they are permanently embedded into a blockchain
It’s sort of the First Amendment on steroids. I absolutely have the right to speak (or not). But I also realize that my speech can be countered by someone else’s. I have to own what I say.
That’s sort of how I am thinking about it.
Now all that said....it does seem, to your point, that there needs to be some off ramps or this new system....and I’d wager, once it is up and running, someone will build some sort of application which allows something like that, sort of allows you to test drive a social media persona before permanently committing....something like that, as it were
Its not so easy as just to create competitors to Twitter and Facebook. These companies lose billions before they have a chance of showing a profit.
That’s the start up cost.
Blockchain: In Most Simple Words
Blockchain is a peer-to-peer decentralized distributed ledger technology that makes the records of any digital asset transparent and unchangeable and works without involving any third-party intermediary. It is an emerging and revolutionary technology that is attracting a lot of public attention due to its capability to reduce risks and frauds in a scalable manner.
Now here comes the question why is Blockchain a distributed, decentralized P2P network? A decentralized network offers multiple benefits over the traditional centralized network, including increased system reliability and privacy. Moreover, such networks are much easier to scale and deal with no real single point of failure. The reason why Blockchain is distributed is because of shared communication and distributed processing.
The P2P architecture of Blockchains provides several benefits such as greater security compared to traditional client-server based networks. A distributed P2P network, paired with a majority consensus requirement, provides Blockchains a relatively high degree of resistance to malicious activities.

We have had a blockchain chat group going for several months now. Highly encrypted, file sharing, voice and video chat. Works pretty well. We have been using the QTox client. Works on windows, Mac, and Linux. Telegram and the others ain’t got nothing on this because they are still centralized.
