Texas governor vetoes funding for Legislature after Democrats block voting bill
Washington Examiner ^ | 18 Jun 2021 | Haley Victory Smith

Gov. Greg Abbott vetoed funding for the Texas state Legislature after Democrats in the state House blocked the Republican-backed election reform bill.

This follows through with a threat he made at the end of May when Democrats blocked S.B. 7 by walking out of the regular legislative session, meaning the House did not have a quorum and therefore could not pass the bill. Among other changes, the bill would create new rules for mail-in voting and provide more access to poll watchers.

"Texans don’t run from a legislative fight, and they don’t walk away from unfinished business," Abbott said in a statement, according to CBS 11. "Funding should not be provided for those who quit their job early, leaving their state with unfinished business and exposing taxpayers to higher costs for an additional legislative session. I therefore object to and disapprove of these appropriations."

Unless the matter is resolved, Democrat and Republican state legislators and their staff will stop getting paid after Aug. 31. Lawmakers are paid $600 per month and an extra $221 for every day they are in session, according to the Texas Tribune.

Governor Abbott needs to do what Nancy Pelosi did in the House of Representatives Where are “public servants” can vote by proxy through another member or by zoom meeting.

If The Democrats break the rules then thenGOP needs to break them too, This isn’t a game of beanbag.

“SWYDT”

Springhall and Whitlawburn Youth Development Team?

Define an acronym the first time you use it with readers or listeners outside of your immediate group. This applies to both spoken and written communications.

Uh, that still doesn’t get us a quorum, mandated by the State Constitution. All the Democrats have to do is not give a proxy or not show up on the Zoom meeting.

They’ve done it several times in the last couple decades. Every time they do it, they end up losing seats, too.

Then it is time to change the Texas Constitution.

Which requires a quorum. Catch-22.

The only way to fix that is to elect fewer Democrats to the Legislature.

Unless and until the intended recipient of my comment asks for a clarification, and FWIW, I hope you will not object if I fail to act on your kind advice.

In the event it was not intended as advice, but instead as a direct order, you’ll surely forgive me if I consider responding by asking you, at least for the time being, to go scratch?

State constitutions can be changed for the better. Not to mention this is merely the first step. There are other tougher measures that an be taken to crush the Democrats.

Since when?
Constitutions can be amended through referendums.

Not in Texas. Article 17 of the Texas Constitution specifies how it is to be amended. There is no path other than through the legislature.
