US couple who pointed guns at BLM protesters plead guilty
BBC ^ | 6/17/2021

Mark and Patricia McCloskey agreed to give up the guns used in the 28 June confrontation in St Louis, Missouri.

Mr McCloskey, 63, pleaded guilty to misdemeanour fourth-degree assault and was fined $750 (£538). His wife, 61, pleaded guilty to misdemeanour harassment and was fined $2,000.

Because the charges are misdemeanours, the personal injury lawyers can keep their law licences and continue to own firearms.

Judge David Mason accepted their guilty pleas, but rejected their request to donate Mr McCloskey's rifle in a fundraiser, US media said.

A grand jury had indicted the couple on felony charges, which would have sent them to jail if convicted. But special prosecutor Richard Callahan said in a statement he opted for misdemeanour charges for a series of factors including "the age and lack of a criminal record for the McCloskeys, the fact they initially called the police, and the fact that no-one was hurt and no shots were fired".

“Basically it was less than a slap on the hand. The most they gave up was just some money. And not much. They can still own guns. They can still do everything they could do before this. They are just out a few dollars. It's hard to pass up a deal like that if you want to get on with your life at age 61 and not spend the rest of your life fighting this.”

Most people would have taken the route the McCloskys took. That is exactly what the left has planned all along. When it comes down to dealing with the arrayed powers of the left in our new Soviet America, I would take the easy way out too. Once Manchin and the Uniparty agree on his price to end the filibuster, the new gun laws will come fast and furious. The left is about to put “from my cold dead hand” to the test. With your local “Boston Strong” police overwhelmingly enforcing the new confiscation/taxation laws, the left will oblige by turning your hands to cold dead ones if necessary.

The Left wants a bunch of “Guilty” pleas to prove they were right and conservatives were wrong.

They will pound us with that any time they need to shut us up, with is all the time.

Let their lack of resolve serve as an example to others

The process is the punishment.

Sure, they're lawyers, but a good lawyer never represents himself. They've paid tens of thousands in legal fees that would only keep growing had they insisted on going to trial.

It's one thing to stick to your principals. It's another thing to go broke doing so, just to prove a point.

They've pleaded to misdemeanors, so they haven't lost their gun rights, and they forfeited the two guns in question as part of the plea deal, but are able to purchase replacements.

Dems will slide in an amendment that if you ever had to forfeit guns you cannot own other ones. Watch and see. The gun grabbers never sleep

I would highly recommend to the governor to issue a pardon.

In my state, a certain kind of display of a firearm is called “brandishing” and is an unlawful use of such a device. Just sayin’.

"Isnt there home in the area near Ferguson? The jury of inner city Dems would have given them the death penalty."

Good point.. One tends to think the best of people, but nowadays that just might get you hung...

Just out of curiosity - what were the sentences of the rioters who trespassed?

“Amerika is indeed lost!!!!”

I ADMIT TO HAVING SAID, DECADES AGO, that there is no hope for this country, sometimes being proven right is hell.

“They should have chose a jury trial...”

Ever been made foreman of a jury? I have and even though it was a liability case that should never have reached a courtroom it left me very fearful of juries. These two are both attorneys and they know better than you that going to trial would have been like....I don’t even know how to say how
self defeating it would be. Their being attorneys would make it even worse to go to trial.
