The article does not say approx. how many people are on that rapid response team. I was surprised to read that this group is a volunteer organization. They are not even being paid to put their lives in danger.
You misunderstood....
From the original article:
“The Rapid Response Team is a group of volunteer officers who respond to civil disobedience, demonstrations and riots. At the time of the incident, Officer Budworth was assigned to the Rapid Response Team for crowd control.”
They’re cops that volunteered for that duty.
I think “volunteer” in this context means they have volunteered for riot control duty. So are pulled away from their normal duties when a riot is declared. I’m sure they are being paid for this.
They are Portland cops that volunteer to be on the team.
There were approx 50 members. Most LEO organizations give some special pay, but apparently these guys didn’t get anything. It probably got them a lot of OT, but that’s about it. You’d think more cops would catch on that the city/state will not have your back, even though they are the ones sending you into an impossible situation.
Volunteer as an additional assigned duty, not unpaid.
They are in the police department but volunteer for this assignment. They still get paid.
I’m pretty sure it’s “volunteer duty” that they are paid for as part of their regular policeman’s salary, not “volunteer work” that they aren’t paid for.
