Yuck! Parents send kids' masks to lab for analysis Contaminated with dangerous bacteria, parasites, fungi after day of school

A group of Florida parents concerned about the potential harm of wearing masks during the school day sent their children's face coverings to a lab for analysis.

"We need to know what we are putting on the faces of our children each day. Masks provide a warm, moist environment for bacteria to grow," said a parent who participated in the analysis, Amanda Donoho.

Of the six masks that were examined, five were contaminated with bacteria, parasites and fungi, noted Scott Morefield of Townhall.com. Three of the masks had dangerous pathogenic and pneumonia-causing bacteria.

No viruses were detected on the masks, although the test is capable of detecting them.

The analysis by the University of Florida's Mass Spectrometry Research and Education Center found the following dangerous pathogens:

Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumonia)

Mycobacterium tuberculosis (tuberculosis)

Neisseria meningitidis (meningitis, sepsis)

Acanthamoeba polyphaga (keratitis and granulomatous amebic encephalitis)

Acinetobacter baumanni (pneumonia, blood stream infections, meningitis, UTIs— resistant to antibiotics)

Escherichia coli (food poisoning)

Borrelia burgdorferi (causes Lyme disease)

Corynebacterium diphtheriae (diphtheria)

Legionella pneumophila (Legionnaires' disease)

Staphylococcus pyogenes serotype M3 (severe infections—high morbidity rates)

Staphylococcus aureus (meningitis, sepsis)

Less dangerous pathogens also were identified, including those that can cause fever, ulcers, acne, yeast infections, strep throat, periodontal disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.

Were those masks from China?

“Staphylococcus aureus (meningitis, sepsis) “

~~~
Just a little misleading?
Staph is often considered normal flora and often doesn’t result in symptomatic infection, but putting (mengingitis, sepsis) makes it sound all threatening.
I suspect the same goes for many of those, depending on the load and strain.
Were they pre-infected or did the masks just pick up germs throughout the day?
They reported on what was found. Not sure if the were factoring in daily load and strain info which the may not have had. Merely what was present in their samples.
In microbiology class you get to swab classmates and see what grows in the petry medium. If I remember right we got an interesting variety of little colonies. If I remember right, strep was fairly uncommon, even though no one felt sick.
Mostly a repeat of what this post is with some other observations.
When in High School science class we did things like dissect frogs and worms. Then we did a petri dish assignment we all had to swab something and see what would grow. Kids swabbed trees and each other etc and put them in an incubator. I took a swab of the bathroom wall. The next day my petri dish took over half the other petri dishes. Teacher was dismayed - not at me, at the crap janitorial services at the school.
Please read my post on an earlier thread on the same topic. The culprit was staph aureus. All the doctors would say was that she was a very unlucky little girl.
Inside or outside the masks? Did the mask merely collect what their precious little disease factories were already spewing out?
Yeah, does your windshield block UV rays? Maybe tie it to your antenna so it gets all the UV rays and the breeze could blow off some of the nasties. 🙌🔬💨😷🌞
Wait. Are you defending masks? On FreeRepublic.com?
Really?
I’ve always said masks are nasty. Who knows how often people wash or replace those vile things? And you see people touching their masks all the time. And most disgusting of all is when you see someone eating and pulling that nasty mask on and off in between bites and sips. I only saw that abomination once, but how gross is that, adding food particles to the bacteria on that thing?
Oh, there are plenty of FReepers who not only defend masks but get bent out of shape if you don’t embrace the mask cult.
I had one refer to me as a “mealy-mouthed flu bro” the other day just because I made an observation that I was seeing fewer masks and more free faces lately and that I like seeing people’s faces.
These mask Karens crack me up. 😂
LOL! No.
I posted early on the NIH study that showed how cloth masks not only don’t work for viruses, but if worn for any length of time they accumulate moisture and act like a magnet for microbes.
Whew, close one.
I was just fixin' to report you to the FluBro Committee on Human Decency.
I'll let you off with a warning.
...This time.
