The U.S. Capitol Police had potentially deadly training deficiencies on one of the force’s most lethal weapons, yet another issue that has come to light since the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol.
The Containment Emergency Response Team (CERT) failed to comply with weapons certifications...
...“The report mentions CERT officers failed to complete the required qualifications on their assigned weapons from 2018 to 2020,” Rep. Pete Aguilar, D-Calif., said. “Twenty-nine CERT officers are required to meet quarterly qualifications on handguns. Twenty-two of the 29 failed to meet those.”
Asked by Aguilar, the vice chairman of the Democratic Conference, if there were any repercussions for the CERT officers who did not meet their weapons qualifications, Bolton said he knew of no actions taken against the officers.

I don't know about the Federal Government's Capitol Police, but in New York State, if you were a Peace Officer, and didn't qualify every year, you wouldn't be able to carry a weapon on duty, and you'd be subject to losing your Peace Officer status. In New York State, we were able to purchase and carry weapons with our badge.
I bet all of those non-qualifiers were up to date on their diversity and sexual harassment mandatory training.
A fried is a retired State Trooper from a nearby state. You had to be qualified on the weapons you were assigned to carry or you were off the road until you were re-qualified and similar to NY if you didn’t requal in a certain amount of time you cold loose your status. They might have allowed light duty desk duty for a short period of time, but I’m not sure on that.
Good thing the protesters were not carrying weapons or intent on hurting anyone.
Staying qualified with free ammo? Where does thst line start?
Lost me right there. That was not an "insurrection" in any sense of the term. Obviously intended to be sensational. Pass.
In my agency you fail to qualify, you got put on non-firearms duty immediately. Since it was corrections, only shotgun and rifle were considered conditional to employment. Handguns were voluntary unless you were a supervisor. I have seen officers fired for failure to qualify. It was rare, but it did happen.

I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. Been there. Done that.
Capitol Police were however well qualified in tossing flash bangs into the crowd. The teargas canisters were especially effective...against themselves. They repeatedly threw them at the crowd and into the wind.
Staying qualified with “free ammo” on company time no less.
