Led by Second Amendment advocate Rep. Richard Hudson, 141 Republicans (and likely more to come) are targeting a revived rule from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives backed by the Justice Department to turn AR-style pistols into expensive, hard to get guns.
In a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland and acting ATF Director Marvin Richardson, Hudson wrote, ..“This proposed guidance is alarming and jeopardizes the rights of law-abiding gun owners and disabled combat veterans across the country.”....He was joined by 140 other Republicans, including the No. 2 and No. 3 GOP leaders, Reps. Steve Scalise and Elise Stefanik.
At issue is the agency’s 71-page proposal to regulate AR pistols equipped with “stabilizing braces” that make it easier for owners to steady the heavy guns. The ATF argues that users more typically use the brace as a rifle stock, creating a short-barreled rifle, a weapon regulated by a rule from the Al Capone era that requires a $200 tax and registration.

Perhaps of interest. Good to see the GOP doing something proactive for a change.
Yeah, not holding my breath.

I’m not impressed by anything the GOP does. Its really a pathetic excuse for a political party.
I would rather the GOP fight to repeal the NFA altogehter.
The only reason why there is a $200 tax on short barrel rifles and shotguns is because the original version of the NFA also taxed handguns at the same then outrageous rate of $200. Short barrel rifles and shotguns were to close the loophole of getting around the handgun ‘ban.’
At the last minute, handguns were dropped from the NFA, but SBRs and SBSs were retained.
Yes, and originally, the FDR administration did not even ask for short barreled rifles in the bill, only short barreled shotguns.
Better if they abolished the unconstitutional agency outright!
Funny, there are a lot more than 141 Republican congress members, 213 to be precise. Where are the missing 72 signatures? These 72 useless tools are people that do not need to be re-elected.

Don’t count on the GOP for anything. Nothing but a bunch of backstabbers. I’ll never forgive them for the things they let happen to President Trump. Did I mention they are a bunch of gutless wonders?
You're looking at it wrong. Don't look at it as a political party. Look at it as a business. A Limited Liability Partnership dedicated to enriching the Partners. That's how they see it and it's working marvelously.
If the ATF isn’t framing people and killing children they ain’t happy.
At a minimum get rid of the restrictions on short barreled rifles. That way we can eliminate this fiction of the AR “pistol”. I’ve see hundreds of people shoot these at the range and every one was firing from the shoulder. It’s a carbine.
Here’s my prediction: The bill will go exactly nowhere.
Republicans will blame those dastardly Democrats for their wascally ways. They will claimed to have ‘stood up for gun owners’, when in reality they did nothing at all.
Camel...Tent...Nose...
They should respond with a bill removing short barreled rifles and suppressors from the NFA.
But, but. If it has that shoulder thing that goes up it makes the bullets more powerful!
Agree!! As I recall, the SCOTUS denied the appeal of a conviction for a short-barreled shotgun based on the idea that a SBS was not a “military” weapon, and hence not a weapon protected by the 2A as it had no “militia” use. Would that the same line of thinking be placed on the AR pistol...reviewed against modern infantry arms. Ought to gut the whole semi- vs auto regs.... More, take a look at the SBS’s SWAT and military employ..
They look just like an AR “pistol” but with a more comfortable stock.
