Cops appear to do nothing amid a drive-by shooting in Atlanta as residents of the wealthy Buckhead area say it's a warzone and demand to secede. Video shows people lining up near a dark-colored van parked on the side of the road. A white car passes by and shots ring out with one going straight through the dark van striking a passersby and sending people scrambling. A few seconds later blue lights could be seen reflecting off the windshield of the black van symbolizing police cars passing by and not stopping at the scene in the wealthy Buckhead neighborhood.
Bill White, CEO and chairman of the Buckhead City Committee represents a wealthy Atlanta neighborhood so terrorized by rising crime they want to secede from the city was horrified by the video. He said the police cars were properly marked and had their lights on. They did not stop, he said, but did call an ambulance and rendered help at the scene.

I saw this on Tucker’s show last night and I still don’t know why the people were lingering at the side of that black van. It doesn’t appear to be residents from Buckhead taking leisurely walks. Difficult to know for sure but doesn’t look like the right color for Buckhead. Only a certain minority (or is it majority now) moves around in groups like that.
Why should they do anything?
Lance Bottoms? Really?
Jokes just write themselves
“separating the wealthy, largely white neighborhood from the rest of Atlanta, which is predominantly black, arguing it would siphon away much of the city’s tax base.”
Atlanta will do much better if their white oppressors are separated from them. All that white privilege, systemic racism and all those other made up, six dollar words.
With all of that whiteness gone, Atlanta will be free and will thrive.
Atlanta will likely be very wealthy within 5 years.
Just purse your lips and whistle...that’s the thing...
Oh they know alright. They just don't want to mention the elephant in the room.
Bulkhead exposed Dan Rathers scam. His user name was Buckhead because he lived in Buckhead.
I didn’t think that needed a ‘sarc’ tag.
When you look at Chicago, a teen can commit a gun crime and be home for dinner. In my part of flyover, we call it mugshot on mugshot violence. Absent help from the courts, watching mugshots shoot other mugshots is about the only strategy the officer on the street has. Unfortunately, innocents do get caught up in this.
I bet this will happen in other wealthy urban enclaves.
Leave the cities now.
I spent a week in Atlanta in the summer of 2019. I was there for a conference. The conference was in the big Marriott Marquis downtown. Prior to that I’ve been to conferences in downtown Chicago, Seattle, Portland (2015 when it wasn’t crazy) DC, Indianapolis, Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, and New York City. In each of those places I went out every evening…sometimes out until late. I never felt unsafe. But Atlanta was different. I felt unsafe even in the daytime. You couldn’t walk 10 feet without getting approached by someone wanting money. Hustlers were everywhere. And many would get aggressive if you ignored them. I stayed in the hotel for most of that week. I hope to never go back to Atlanta.
6 million people live in metro Atlanta now. It’s basically the size of the SF Bay Area and will swallow the entire state of GA soon.
And yet the population of the City of Atlanta, itself, is less than a half a million, it’s all just a bunch of suburbs spread out.
There are now two bills in the Georgia State Legislature to have Buckhead secede from the city, but city officials have opposed the idea of separating the wealthy, largely white neighborhood from the rest of Atlanta, which is predominantly black, arguing it would siphon away much of the city’s tax base.

When the badly run shelter described in the link shut down in 2017, the homeless staying there were supposedly relocated to other places, but I think many of them migrated further downtown (such as the hotel district where you stayed) and started living in tents along and under the interstates running through downtown.

I went to a big conference in Columbus,OH and it was the same way, you couldn’t go outside of the best hotel in that city without being in gangland.
When I was in Chicago…I stayed in the big Chicago Hilton on Michigan Avenue. I stayed out late every night taking city scape photos. Walked all over the place. Up to Navy Pier. I covered the whole south loop. I never once felt unsafe. But I was scared to get 10 feet past the hotel entrance. Even during the day. It was shocking.
Meant to say…scared to get 10 from hotel entrance in Atlanta.
The hotel in Columbus told us to never go outside except to a waiting cab at the front door, even to go 1/2 block to the restaurant next door!
A funny (or not so funny) story about Chicago. I was visiting some family in Naperville some years back. I had just bought a new car with one of those (back then) new-fangled GPS systems.
We decided to visit a Science museum on Lake Shore Drive and due to the number of kids involved, we took separate cars. My brother-in-law gave me explicit directions on how to get there and back from Naperville. On the trip over there, I realized we were going way out of our way to get there and that there had to be a much shorter way.
So on the way back, I figured I'd outsmart my brother-in-law and use my GPS to get back back to Naperville much faster. So I set it for local roads and most direct route.
Big mistake! Let's just say that if my car broke down or had a fender bender, my wife and I (and some of the kids) were dead meat.
It was a lock your door, close your windows and look straight ahead experience for about half an hour.
I remember he did something awesome. Getting Dan Rather fired is awesome.
